Chapter 7
There was a tightness in my chest, a slow–burning rage i refused to swallow down.
Fine.
If Leo wanted to play dirty, I could play dirtier.
I didn’t even bother arguing. Instead, I went straight to his parents‘ house, putting on my most polite and helpless expression.
“Aunt Linda, I’m so sorry to bother you, but the building management needs to update their records, and I need the property deed for the apartment.”
She didn’t even hesitate, handing it over without a second thought.
“Honestly, Chloe, I don’t know what Leo would do without you.”
Then, as if realizing the irony of her words, she let out an awkward laugh.
I gave a small smile, tucking the document under my arm.
Leo really would lose his mind when he realized what I’d done.
I went directly to the locksmith company with my property certificate. An hour later, I finally stepped back into the apartment I had called home for nearly a year.
Home.
What a joke.
I still remembered the day I moved in.
Leo had stood at the doorway, hands in his pockets, watching me with that lazy smirk of his.
“Welcome home, Chloe.”
I had believed him.

Chapter 7
I had believed this place was ours.
Now, as I scanned the room, all I saw were ghosts of a life I no longer belonged to.
The potted plants I had nurtured with care.
The sundresses hanging on the balcony, swaying lightly in the breeze.
The neatly arranged makeup on the bathroom counter.
The carefully set dining table, because I had always insisted that meals should feel special, even on ordinary days.
I inhaled sharply and got to work.
I packed what was truly mine–luxury dresses, designer handbags, expensive skincare products. The
rest?
The rest had been ours.
So I destroyed it.
Furniture we had picked out together? Smashed.
The bookshelf where we kept our favorite novels? Reduced to splinters.
The lamp he had bought because he said warm lighting made a place feel like home? Shattered.
By the time I was finished, the apartment was unrecognizable.
My hands ached. My chest was heaving.
I had never felt so exhausted in my life.
Just as I was about to leave, the front door swung open.
Leo stepped in, grocery bags hanging from both arms.
He froze.
For a full ten seconds, he just stood there, unmoving.

Then, as if needing confirmation that he hadn’t walked into the wrong apartment, he stepped back into the hallway, glancing at the door number.
When he stepped inside again, his face was red with
“Chloe, what the f* is wrong with you?“**
