I paced our room nervously, rehearsing words that kept dissolving into treningless sounds
The door opened, and Kaius stepped in. He was carrying a small velvet box, his expression softening when he saw ma
‘Elowen,‘ he said, my name a caress on his lips.
Welcome back, Kaius.” I managed a smile that felt brittle on my face
He studied me for a moment, his amber eyes seeing too much. You pemed to be a bit lost checking me out?
I hadn’t realized I’d been staring. I just… missed you today,”
Something in my tone must have concerned him. He approached, setting the velvet box on the table between us.
“I got you something.”
“Oh,” I replied, momentarily distracted from the terrible truth I needed to share.
He opened the box to reveal a delicate necklace, a teardrop sapphire that caught the evening light and scattered it in blue flames. The craftsmanship was exquisite, the chain so fine it seemed like liquid silver.
“I could only think about you when I saw this,” he said, lifting it from the box.
My heart contracted painfully. After tonight, would he ever look at me the same way again? Would he ever give me gifts with that tender expression?
“Kaius, I can’t take this.” The words came out strangled.
His brow furrowed. “Elowen, don’t turn this down.”
“I’m sorry, I just thought it was a bit too much.” A weak excuse, but I couldn’t tell him yet that I felt unworthy of such beauty, knowing what I now knew.
“For you, nothing is too much.” He moved behind me, draping the necklace around my throat, his fingers warm against my skin as he fastened the clasp.
I touched the sapphire, feeling its cool weight. “Thank you, Kaius. I love it.*
“You are welcome; I’m glad you like it.” He pressed a kiss to my temple, unaware of how each gentle gesture twisted the knife deeper.
This was it. I had to tell him now, before I lost my courage.
“Kaius, I… wanted to talk to you.”
He sensed my seriousness, moving to sit on the edge of the bed. “I’m listening.”
I took a deep breath, trying to find an indirect approach. “I was wondering; how would you feel about having a sister.”
Confusion crossed his features. “A baby sister?”
“Yes.” I watched his reaction carefully.

Chapter 129
I have always wanted that. Ewen, if this is about having kids- what you are heading at, then I am totally fine with it?
I won’t refer to my daughter as a baby sister, but if this is
My heart sank. He’d misunderstand completely. Really?”
‘Yes, is this where you were heading?”
‘Yes… No. That’s not what I wanted to talk to you about. I moved to sit beside him, my hands trembling. I went to my mother’s today. She told me something, a truth that I wish I never knew about. You know that my mother and your father had been…”
“Elowen, stop,” His voice sharpened with sudden tension.
“You have to hear me out.”
“You could never be my sister, Elowen.” The certainty in his voice almost broke me.
“Kalus, I’m sorry. There was something I didn’t tell you. When your father… abducted me, I had this feeling that he knew, but I didn’t want to believe it. My mother had been pregnant with me before she left this pack.”
I watched as understanding dawned in his eyes, followed by denial. “But you look nothing like him; you look nothing like me, and with the Alpha Blood in you…”
“I know, I thought about all those too, but I believe my mother was telling the truth.”
“And she has to tell you this truth now? Doesn’t that sound a bit suspicious? The faintest edge of hope colored his voice–hope that this was all some terrible mistake.
“Kaius. I told my mother about the contract.” I hadn’t meant to reveal this, but I needed him to understand. “She had been so worried, and I was trying to assure her that we would leave this place soon. But I never did inform her when things changed; she didn’t tell me anything about who my father was because she thought she wouldn’t have to.”
His jaw tightened. “She doesn’t want me with you, not after what my father did to her, right?”
“What she wants doesn’t matter right now. This is all about us. I reached for his hand, relief washing through me when he didn’t pull away.
“I could never see you as my sister after all we have done, all I made you do.” The raw pain in his voice matched the ache in my
chest.
“Neither can I. It doesn’t have to matter; we could move on because I would never stop loving you, and I would never see you as a brother either, but the man I love.”
He stood abruptly, putting distance between us. “I can’t.”
“What do you mean by you can’t?”
“Thinking about you naked feels so wrong. This is not okay.” Disgust flashed across his features–not at me, but at the situation, at the impossible corner we found ourselves in.
“But you love me; I love you too; that’s all that matters. I stood as well, reaching for him, desperate to bridge the growing chasm.
He backed away, raising his hands as if to ward me off. The gesture hurt more than any words could.
“Kaius, please don’t do this; I am crazy over you, and I…” My voice broke as tears welled in my eyes.
His expression softened, but the distance remained. “I’m sorry, please don’t cry,
Elowen.”

Chapter 129
“You can’t leave me, Kaius; I do not care what anyone says; I am your Luna and Queen, more than that, I am your mate; and nothing would ever change that. The words tumbled out, a desperate plea against the inevitable.

But looking into his eyes, I already knew my battle was lost.
The man I loved, the man I’d given everything to, couldn’t see past the blood we might share.
