“What?” I blinked, disoriented.
He nodded toward the entrance, where several pack members were approaching for their own training session.
Reluctantly, I stepped away, smoothing my borrowed clothes. “Thank you, Beta, for your lessons,” I said formally, loud enough for
the newcomers to hear.
His eyes glinted with amusement as he inclined his head. “Always a measure to serve the Luna.”
“The result is here.”
Frost’s voice pulled me from sleep. I blinked, disoriented, to find him standing over me, an envelope in his hand.
“Did you read it?.. did you?” I sat up quickly, suddenly wide awake.
“No, of course I didn’t… I thought you would want to check it out first.”
My hands trembled as I reached for the envelope. Now that the moment had arrived, I found myself hesitating. “What happens if he is indeed my half brother? I mean, I have to be prepared for that.”
“I don’t think Kaius would let this all go on long, soon he would get back to his senses.” Frost’s voice held a certainty I didn’t feel.
“What if he doesn’t… what if he really would never go on with his ‘half‘ sister?” The fear that had been hovering at the edges of my
mind all day surged forward.
Frost sat beside me, his presence steadying. “Elowen, you have nothing to worry about. Just open the damn envelope.”
“Okay.” I took a deep breath and tore it open, scanning the healer’s precise handwriting.
Results: Negative for familial relation. Confidence: 99.8% Conclusion: The subjects are not biologically related.
I read the words once, twice, my brain struggling to process their meaning.
“Well, I did tell you, it is very unlikely that you are related to him,” Frost said, peering over my shoulder at the results.
“So I am not?” I needed to hear it spoken aloud, to make it real.
“That’s what the test says, and I believe it’s true.”
Joy surged through me, so powerful it felt like my chest might burst with it. Then confusion set in. “But my mother…”
“Maybe she didn’t know.”
“Or maybe… she was lying to me just to separate us; she had said it earlier that she didn’t want the both of us together.” The possibility hardened into certainty as I spoke it. My mother’s desperate desire to keep me away from Kaius, her conviction that I would leave with her once the contract ended, her horror when she realized I’d fallen in love with him…
“If she had suggested a DNA test, then maybe she still had the little doubt and she wanted you to find out.” Frost’s reasonable tone cut through my building anger.

Chapter 135
“I’m so happy,” I breathed, relief and joy overwhelming everything else. I jumped to my feet, clutching the reseite. I have to go Kaius right away.”
Frost’s hand on my arm stopped me. “No… Not now.”
I turned to him, confused by his sudden shift. “Why?”
“Just not now.” His eyes held something I couldn’t read–a concern, a warning, perhaps even a fear.
“But this changes everything! Kaius needs to know we’re not… that we can… I struggled to articulate the overwhelming hope surging through me.
“Elowen, please. Trust me on this.” The intensity in his voice gave me pause. “Tomorrow. Tell him tomorrow.”
I searched his face, trying to understand what he wasn’t saying, “There’s something you’re not telling me.”
He looked away briefly, then met my gaze again. “I just think you both need time. This has been… a lot.”
I wasn’t entirely convinced, but the joy of the test results was too overwhelming to be dampened for long. Fine. Tomorrow. But first thing in the morning, I’m going to him with this.”
Frost nodded, though something in his expression remained troubled “First thing tomorrow.”
