The Alpha’s Borrowed Luna
Dorian’s Warning
My fingers trembled as I folded the last of my clothes–a plain sweater my mother had knitted for me last winter. It wasn’t much, just like everything else I owned. A single bag was all I needed to pack my entire life at Mistwood Pack.
Eighteen years reduced to a pathetic collection of worn clothes, a small wooden wolf figurine my father had carved before he died, and a tattered book of werewolf mythology.
“That’s everything,” I said, more to myself than to my mother who stood by the window, her eyes fixed on something distant beyond the glass.
Last night had been brutal. After hours of argument, tears, and devastating silence, I’d finally convinced her that leaving with me was the only option.
Not that either of us truly had a choice–a slave and a rejected mate against an Alpha? We
were powerless in every way that mattered. But at least this way, we’d be together.
I closed my bag with a decisive tug. Suddenly, something shifted in the air–a change in
scent, a disturbance in the energy of the room. My body tensed instinctively before my mind caught up.
Dorian.
The door burst open suddenly, revealing his towering silhouette. His eyes, those green eyes I’d once found so mesmerizing, swept the room with casual ownership before landing
on me.
For the first time in my life, I didn’t lower my gaze.
“You know it’s very inappropriate to walk into a lady’s room without knocking, right?” I blurted out, shocked at my own boldness.
Surprise flickered across his face, then amusement. “Now the true Elowen shows herself. I knew you had all that pent–up anger in you for a long time. I actually expected you to slip in the mating ball last night, and I am totally surprised you didn’t.”
I lifted my chin. “That’s so unfortunate.”
Dorian stalked closer, his scent–pine and leather and arrogance–made my stomach turn.

Dorian’s Warning
How had I ever found it appealing?
You really think it changes anything? The fact that you are mated to Alpha Kaius, he said, his voice deceptively soft.
“It does change everything, Dorian.” The feeling of saying his name without the respectful Alpha‘ title felt good. “I am the Luna to an Alpha. I bet you know the consequences if your do try touching me.”
His hand shot out, faster than I could track, stopping just inches from my face. “Or do I?”
I didn’t flinch. “Sometimes I wonder why you care so much. I am no longer your mate; you rejected me. You told me straight to my face that I could never and would never be your mate. What changed? Aren’t you interested in Luna Selene anymore?”
Something ugly twisted his handsome features. “You are mine, rejected or not. You were fated to be with me, and I was going to have you… till he took you away from me.”
I stared at him, disbelief washing over me as understanding dawned. “Is that what you thought? That you were going to have me and Selene?”
He smiled, that charming, cruel smile that once made my heart race. “I would have. Perks of being the Alpha.”
He never intended to choose. He wanted both of us all along. The realization made bile rise in my throat.
“Well, what a fool you must have been if you think I would let you use me one more time after all the filthy lies you whispered into my ears.” My voice sounded strange to my own. ears–strong, clear, unbroken by the fear he usually inspired. “I would never let you touch.
me.”
Something dark flashed in his eyes. “It must have hurt you when I lied to you, when I had said all those same words to my mate Selene.”
“You deserve each other,” I said, surprised by how little his words stung now. “But do you. know what you don’t deserve? My tears.
His hand darted out again, this time gripping my chin painfully. “It must have hurt you when I took your virginity, promising you falsities, and you were the pathetic one to

believe me.”
I pushed his hands away with unexpected strength. Shock flashed across his face–the Alpha momentarily
med by my defiance. He stared at me as if seeing a stranger before
his lips formed a cunning smile..
“You might think Alpha Kaius will be your little savior, but I promise you, you won’t last two weeks with him.” His voice dropped lower, gaining a vicious edge. “You will come back and beg for forgiveness, ready to be whatever I want you to be just to remain in this pack. And do you know what I would do then? I would let you back in, just for my ego’s sake. And if you think the life you are living now is bad, I would make it worse for you and the
old hag.”
Why is he so certain? The question echoed in my mind, planting seeds of doubt I desperately tried to ignore.
“Keep believing that, Dorian,” I said, forcing a confidence I didn’t entirely feel. It helps me remember what I’m escaping.”
Something flickered across his face–almost like pity. “Oh, Elowen. You have no idea what you’re running toward.”
He turned on his heel and left, closing the door with exaggerated gentleness that somehow felt more threatening than a slam.
Dorian’s words clung
to me like a shadow.
You won’t last two weeks with him.
I shouldn’t care about Dorian’s words, but I did. Why would he think that? What did he know about Alpha Kaius that made him so confident?
By sundown, a ripple of tension moved through the pack house. Whispers spread from room to room. He’s here. Alpha Kaius has come.
A young wolf appeared at my door, pale and wide–eyed. “The Alpha requests your presence in his office.”

Dorian’s Warning
My heart sank. That was the last place I wanted to be–Dorian’s territory, his seat of power. But I had no choice. I’ll be right there.”
The corridors seemed longer than usual, each step taking me closer to a future I couldn’t fully imagine. Pack members pressed themselves against walls as I passed, avoiding eye contact. Was it fear of Kaius’s reputation, or had I already become something other than what I was yesterday?
I paused outside Dorian’s office, my hand hovering over the polished wood of the door. Through it, I could sense two powerful presences. Two Alphas.
For some reason, I felt protected. I shouldn’t feel that way. Not with a man who had
warned me himself that he would hurt me.
I knocked once and entered without waiting for a response.
