The Alpha’s Borrowed Luna
Chapter 162
“Kaius, it’s me.” I took a step backward, then another.
He matched my retreat with a slow advance, his movements jerky and unnatural. When he lunged, it happened so quickly I had no
chance to run.
His hand–clawed and massive–shot straight for my throat. It clamped around my neck with brutal force, lifting me clean off my feet and slamming me hard against the unyielding trunk of a thick ok. The impact rattled my teeth and skull.
Air instantly crushed from my lungs. Panic surged, raw and terrifying, as his grip tightened like iron bands, fingers digging cruelly into my flesh, strangling the life from me. My legs thrashed uselessly against him, feet kicking at empty air as black spots danced wildly in my vision. I couldn’t breathe, couldn’t think past the crushing pressure suffocating me.
“Kai… Kaius…” The name was a strangled gasp, barely audible past the constriction.
I clawed weakly at the monstrous hand imprisoning me, desperately scanning his face for any flicker of recognition, any sign of the man I knew. There was nothing. Only the vacant, feral stare of a beast consumed by rage.
Then, with a sudden, violent roar that ripped through the air, he ripped me away from the tree and hurled me contemptuously aside like a broken doll. I flew several feet before crashing onto the hard–packed earth with sickening force.
I pushed myself up, preparing to run, but froze when I looked up. Kajus had vanished. The forest around me was empty and silent.
“Kaius!” I called, wincing at the pain in my ribs. “Kaius!”
Only silence answered. I scanned the trees, trying to catch any movement, any sign of where he’d gone. Nothing.
My hand instinctively flew to my throat, fingers gently probing the raw, aching bruises where his claws had dug in. The chill I felt had nothing to do with my nakedness and everything to do with the terror of what I’d just witnessed.
A rustling in the bushes sent me whirling around, hands raised defensively.
“It’s just me,” Frost’s voice came seconds before he emerged from the trees. Relief flooded through me, swiftly followed by
embarrassment at my state of undress.
Frost quickly removed his jacket, draping it around my shoulders. “You’re hurt,” he said, his eyes scanning my body for injuries.
“He’s gone, Frost,” I said, clutching the jacket around me. “We have to find him, we have to-”
“We will, but only after I get you back to the pack house,” he replied, his tone leaving no room for argument.
“How did you know I was here?” I asked as he lifted me carefully into his arms.
“I sensed Kaius was disturbed. I guess he was trying to pass me some kind of signal–he knew what was coming.” Frost’s expression darkened. “What exactly happened?”
I hesitated, unwilling to describe the monstrous transformation I’d witnessed. “We decided to take a run in the wood don’t know… he just changed all of a sudden.”
then… I
Frost’s grip on me tightened slightly. As of now, he’s alive and well. He’ll be back, Elowen. You don’t have to worry, but you need a

“What are you doing?” I asked as he lifted me higher against his chest.

Chapter 102
“I can’t let you walk, not in this state.”
I didn’t argue. The pain in my back and ribs made even breathing difficult, and the forest suddenly seemed hostile without Kaius by my side.
“Kaius will be back when he’s ready,” Frost assured me as we made our way toward the pack house.
I rested my head against his shoulder, desperately hoping he was right.
