The Alpha’s Borrowed Luna
Chapter 172
The formal declaration sent a wave of shock through the room. This wasn’t just a personal rejection–it was an office comma my status, my position, my place in this world I’d come to call home
I felt a hand on my arm and turned to see Frost beside me, his ice–blue eyes filled with a fury Id new winessed before.
“How could he do this?” he spat, his grip on my arm tightening.
I couldn’t answer. My throat had closed, choked with unshed tears and silent screams. Frost guided me away from the center of attention, through the crowd that parted before us like water. Some faces showed pity, others smag satisfaction, but most were simply shocked.
“Please say something. Anything, Frost urged as we reached the edge of the hall.
Before I could find words, a blur of movement caught my eye. Frost lunged at Kaius with fast speed, his hand cracking across Kai‘ face with such force that the sound echoed through the hall. Before anyone could react, his fingers were wrapped around Kai’s throat, squeezing with murderous intent.
“Frost, let go,” Kaius commanded, but Frost’s grip only tightened.
I stood frozen, watching this nightmare unfold. I’d never seen Frost lose control like this. Part of me wanted to step in, to stop what was happening, but I couldn’t move.
The crowd scattered, backing away from the two most powerful wolves in the pack. Guards moved forward but hesitated, uncertain whether to interfere in what appeared to be a confrontation between Alpha and Beta.
“Stand down,” Kaius ordered, his voice carrying the weight of Alpha command.
Frost’s grip loosened, though it clearly wasn’t by choice. The power of an Alpha’s direct command couldn’t be ignored, not even by his Beta.
“This is fucked up, and it’s all on you,” Frost spat, stepping back with visible reluctance.
I turned away, unable to bear watching any more. My feet carried me automatically through familiar corridors, each step taking me further from the hall’s humiliation but closer to a more private confrontation I knew awaited me.
When I reached Kaius’s chambers, I paused outside the door. Part of me wanted to run, to flee the pack house and never return. But where would I go? What would I do? Everything I had, everything I was, existed here within these walls, with these people.
With him.
I pushed open the door and entered, my heart hammering against my ribs. The room looked exactly as we’d left it–the emerald dress I’d discarded for the one I now wore still draped across the bed my personal items scattered among his on the dresser, shared books on the nightstand.
How could everything appear so normal when my world had just shattered?
I waited, time stretching like an endless thread, until the door opened again and Kaius entered. His expression remained cold and distant, not a hint of the man who’d held me so tenderly just hours before.
“Kaius,” I said, his name a plea and a question all at once.
He moved past me as if I were invisible, removing his formal jacket and loosening his tie. The casual dismissal hurt more than any
harsh words could have.

Chapter 172
“Why would you do this to me Kaius?” I asked, my voice breaking despite my efforts to keep it steady.
When he finally turned to face me, his expression was perfectly blai “You knew this was a contract, Elware Contracts and
“But you said-” I swallowed hard, remembering all his declarations love, his promises that our arrangement had become something real. “You said you loved me.”
“I said many things.” He turned away again, as if the conversation bored him.
Something inside me cracked, I crossed the room in three quick strides and grabbed his arm, forcing him to look at me. ‘Don’t de this. Whatever game you’re playing, whatever plan you’ve concocted, just stop. Talk to me.”
He removed my hand from his arm, his touch impersonal. “There’s nothing to discuss. You’ll be provided transportation back to your former pack, or anywhere else you wish to go.”
“I would do anything,” I said, the words tumbling out as I dropped to my knees before him. “Anything”
“You have nothing to offer,” he replied coldly.
“I know why you’re doing this,” I said, desperate to find the reason behind this cruel transformation. “It’s because you think you’re too dangerous for me, right? You think I would be safer out there.”
“You know nothing.”
“I do… I know what we shared; it cannot all be fake. I refuse to believe it.”
Something shifted in his expression–a flicker of emotion quickly suppressed. “Are you hoping it wasn’t?”
“It is not; I knew what I felt was true.”
“But do you wonder if all this time, I had seen you as fun until you were not? His words were calculated to hurt, and they found their mark.
Despite the pain, I refused to give up. “I will always love you, monster or not. I told you this, Kaius, we were going to make things work.”
“How?” he challenged.
“There is always a way.”
“This is the end, Elowen, and the faster we go through with this, the better.” He moved to his desk, retrieving something from a drawer.
“Kaius, I have nothing.” The admission cost me what little pride I had left.
“Just as I had promised you, I would give you enough money to start up a new life. He extended his hand, holding out what appeared to be a check.
“I don’t want money; I don’t want a new life; I want you.” I remained on my knees, hope fading with each cold word from his lips.
I don’t love you anymore, Elowen; you’ve become merely a burden to me.” His voice hardened. “You always knew this would come to an end, didn’t you?”
