I hadn’t seen my mother in days, Since our heart–to–heart when we ally reconciled, Ed been through to much. Now, I found myself longing for her presence, needing her more than ever as I headed to her suite.
I reached her apartment. “Mom?” I called, knocking on the heavy wooden door. No answer came.
I knocked again, louder this time. “Anyone home?”
After several montents of silence, I tried the handle. The door swung open easily, revealing a pristine living area with no sign of my mother. Everything was immaculately tidy, almost unnaturally so..
A young maid appeared from the kitchen aren, startled by my presence.
“Have you seen my mother lately?” I asked, an uneasy feeling settling in my stomach.
“She is your mother?” The girl’s eyes widened in recognition,
“Yes, she is, I corrected myself. These servants were still adjusting to the idea that the Alpha’s mate had a mother who’d once been
a slave.
The maid looked uncomfortable. I haven’t seen her in some time, Luna. Several days, at least.“.
“A few days!” Alarm shot through me. Where could she have gone? Why hadn’t she told me?
“I come to clean daily, but she hasn’t been here. I assumed she was staying elsewhere.” The maid’s voice grew smaller with each word, clearly frightened of delivering bad news.
I thanked her and left, my mind racing. My mother had been anxious about staying at Ravenhollow since we arrived, Had she finally fled? Or had something worse happened?
As I walked back toward my y rooms, deep in thought, a sound caught my attention. Someone was crying, the soft sobs barely audible. 1 followed the sound to a door left slightly ajar, a glimpse of electric blue hair visible through the gap.
Lysandra.
My first instinct was to walk away. After her attempt to lure me into trap with Dorian, I had no reason to show her compassion, Yet something made me pause. The raw pain in those sobs was unmistakable.
“What’s wrong, Lysandra?” I asked, pushing the door open wider.
She looked
up, her face streaked with tears, eyes widening in surprise. “Elowen.” up.
“You no like you don’t know,” she added after a moment, hastily wiping
her face.
“I don’t.” I remained in the du
doorway, unwilling to enter her space completely.
“So you are doing what? trying to comfort me?” Disbelief colored her voice.
I may not be able to comfort you, I said slowly, “but I think you might want to talk. The offer surprised even
“You’re right.” She gestured for me to enter.
1 stepped into the room, closing the door behind me.

Chapter 83
“First, would you answer my question? When you helped me out of the pack, I had found someone waiting, someone from my past that I wasn’t very enthusiastic about meeting, and it led me to believe you planned it out; you betrayed me, leading me into a trap. Why?”
Her shoulders straightened, a flash of defiance crossing her tear stated face. “Yes, I did just that. I knew I had to get you far away from here, somewhere Kalus would never think to look. He would never expect you to return to your previous pack, so he’d waste time searching everywhere else. This was the only way in ensure your safety to put you somewhere he’d never find you
“Why? Lysandra,” I pressed, needing to understand her motives,
-You
want to know why?” Her voice rose will emotion. “Because I had been here all along, standing by his side, I had done everything, been everything, just to prove to him that I was fit to be is Luna, I gave my life into this, and I finally thought I was so close to achieving this, but you came in and everything changed, Elgen. He went all those miles away, just to get you–a common wolf like you–over me! Over every single able sho–wolf in this pack,,t feels like an insult, a fucking slap on the face.”
