hy waited until she couldn’t hear Silas knocking before she sat upright on her bed.
She bit her lip as regret tightened her chest. She knew she shouldn’t avoid him, but she couldn’t help but feel anger, and jealousy after seeing Kim kissing him
“Not my business.” she muttered to herself as she got out of the bed.
She was going to ignore everything and move on with the day. Besides, she had her team to meet, a grand opening to prepare for and she was really tired after yesterday’s events.
As she was about to go prepare, her phone rang. She picked it from the bedside table and saw that Aunt May was calling “Hello my sweet girl” May said cheerfully.
“Hi, Aunt May. How are you?” Ivy asked as she walked to the window. The fields looked beautiful under the early morning
sun.
T’m good. Thank you so much for yesterday, Ivy. L.. how did you do it?” Emotions swell up in Aunt May’s voice.
It just happened. I’m glad you’re happy.”

Tm glad, Ivy chuckled. “Let’s see how today goes, I should come say hi to you guys.”
“Oh. I’ll love that very much.” May sounded pleased.
“Alright, talk to you later?”
“Sure,” May said and ended the call.
Ivy sighed as she walked away from the window and got ready for the day. She was feeling in control, so she picked a striking designer purple shirt to match her mood.
Once she was done, she proceeded downstairs but met Monica on the way.
“Monica!” she cheered.
“Ivy! I haven’t seen you in days and we live together,” Monica teased.
Ivy laughed. “I know. How have you been?”
“Good,” Monica smiled, then she looked Ivy all over. “I see you’re doing well without me.”
“Oh, come on.”
“You look good, and congratulations on your company. Mr Stone told us,” Monica’s smile widened.
At the mention of Silas, Ivy’s stomach stirred but she held her smile. “Thank you very much.”
“Anyway, don’t let me keep you waiting. Have a nice day,” Monica said.
“And you too,” Ivy said, waving as she left the home.
A part of her wanted to walk to Silas’s room and drag Kim out. The other part didn’t want to deal with shenanigans that morning, and she let that part win.
She had said her piece yesterday, and she hoped Kim understood it perfectly.
“Good morning, Mrs Stone,” Bud greeted, opening the car’s door. He was looking sharp in a black suit.
“Good morning, Bud,” Ivy replied as she entered the car.
“Off to work?” Bud asked, slipping into the front seat.
“Yes,” Ivy answered.
As Bud started the car, all the emotions Ivy had been avoiding came slipping out. Her mind wandered to Mason, and she clenched her jaw.
How could she prove he was responsible?
Mason had been smart enough not to text her when he confessed. It was her words against his, and she didn’t have to be d lawyer to know that wouldn’t hold up in court.

He was probably pissed she didn’t speak to him, and that made her regret swell in her chest.
“We’re here,” Bud said, interrupting her thoughts.
She tucked the phone and stepped out. “Thank you Bud.”
The newly painted wall looked stunning as Ivy made her way into the company. All the anger, the quilt all transformed into joy when she stepped inside and saw that her team was present.
“Good morning ma’am,” they chorused.
“Good morning,” Ivy said, keeping her excitement controlled. “How are we all doing?
“Good,” they all responded.
“Let’s meet in the meeting room in five minutes for our first team meeting,” Ivy said and then made her way upstairs to her office.
Bud followed her, and when they reached the door, she turned to him and collected her bag. “Thank you Bud.”
“You’re welcome, ma’am.” Bud nodded.
“Can you grab breakfast for all of us? Maybe something nice from Sylvia’s?”
Bud’s eyes widened at the mention of Sylvia, and he smiled. “Sure ma’am.”
“Don’t be late,” she teased as she entered her office.
The new window was the first thing she saw and her heart flipped with excitement. She dropped her bag on her table and stood at it, enjoying the bliss she was feeling.
“It’s all complete now,” she whispered to herself.
Then her thoughts drifted to Silas’s words yesterday and heat crept up her cheeks. She shook her head, kicking aside all the thoughts.
There was a lot to do today and she was going to focus on that. She took out her laptop and typed out all the items she would be discussing.
Some minutes later, she proceeded to the meeting room where everybody had gathered.
“Hello,” Ivy greeted as she entered. She could still smell paint as she set her laptop on the table. She waited until everyone had settled before she spoke again.
“It’s nice to meet you all again. I’m Ivy, the owner of this small company,” she said and they all laughed. “We don’t have a name yet, but we’ll work on that. I would love to know your names so we get more personal.” Then she sat.
One by one everyone introduced themselves, and when they were done, she leaned forward. “Wonderful,” she smiled. “So before we can start any business, I want to plan an opening. I picked a theme; empowering women, and I have two women on my list for now: Sonia Raj and Theresa Stone.”
She had changed her mind about adding Rosie, not after their encounter and definitely not after what Kim did yesterday.
“If you know any other women you’d like for me to add, please make a list with their names and why we should celebrate them. Then send them to me,” she continued. “I also think we should include famous places in San Jose, you know, to celebrate the city.”
“That’s not a bad idea, ma’am,” Ethan, one of her photographers said. “There are plenty of lovely places here.”
“That’s good to know.” Ivy nodded. “so everyone would be submitting lists for that as well. If you have no contribution, it’s fine too, we can just work with those two. So,” she said, getting up, “thank you for your time. I’ll get started with preparation so business can officially begin.”
“Yes, ma’am,” they said.
“Alright, get used to each other and your positions. We’ll talk another time,” she smiled as she left the room.
She was halfway upstairs, when somebody called her name. “Yes?” she turned, smiling at Jade, her personal assistant.
“I don’t want to be weird…” Jade said, her cheeks flushing. “But I thought of a name for the company.”
Curiosity raced through her and she nodded. “Let’s hear it.”
“Ivysion brands,” Jade said, averting her eyes.
“Ivysion brands,” Ivy repeated, liking the feel of it. It stood for her independence, her strength.
It was better than naming it Ivy Stone photography, that way she didn’t have to worry about changing the name when her
contract was over.
“I… know… it weird-”
“I love it,” Ivy interpreted, adding a smile. “Thank you Jade.”
“Oh.” Jade’s blush deepened then she grinned. “You’re welcome, ma’am.”

She searched for her phone, trying to find the news when a message came in

“Hello Ivy, I spoke to the detective, and I really want to thank you for everything, but fire taking your father’s advice and
opting out. I don’t want to find anybody anymore. But thanks for trying”
