I held the rough wolf fang necklace in my hand, lightly brushing my fingers over its gleaming surface.
That fang belonged to Susan’s late mother–the only thing she left behind for her. That stubborn Omega had clung to it since she was little. No matter how brutally I punished her, she never let it go.
I remember one time when I twisted her ear. She stayed silent, biting her lip hard. But the moment I snatched her necklace and tried to throw it away, she cried heartbreakingly, tears streaming down her cheeks.
“Don’t worry,” I said, offering a warm smile. “Susan’s necklace is still here. She’ll come back for it.”
Frank sat slumped on the couch, his expression doubtful. “Are you sure that old trinket matters enough to bring her back?”
I chuckled lightly as I spoke with quiet confidence, “You’re often too busy to notice, but that necklace is everything to her. It’s her only connection to her mother. She won’t abandon it.”
Tamara’s eyes sparked with a desperate hope, like a drowning person spotting a life raft. “Yes! She did treasure that necklace. She even wore it in the shower! Oh, this is good! If she returns, we might still have a chance.”
I dropped my gaze, hiding the cold glint in my eyes.
What they didn’t realize was that the necklace wasn’t the only thing tying Susan to this place. There was something far more important–a parrot. It lived in the small grove behind the villa, always avoiding everyone except Susan. It would only come to her. That bird was the true reason she’d return.
Someone else could retrieve the necklace, but only Susan could take the parrot.
I gently traced the sharp fang on the necklace, my voice as soft as a lullaby. “I’ve even cleaned it up and put on a stronger cord. She’ll be pleased when she gets it back.”
Relief washed over Frank’s face. He stood up, wrapped his arms around me, and his voice brimmed with gratitude.
“You’ve done so much! Despite how she’s treated you, you still care about her. When we get back on our feet, I’ll make sure you’re rewarded.”

Tamara sprang up and ordered, “Come on, let’s clean this place up! If Susan comes back and sees the house like this, she won’t be pleased.”
Since the Grayclaw Tribe fell apart, all the maids had left, leaving only us in the hollow villa.
Frank immediately turned to me and said, “Cynthia, can you tidy up the living room and get the guest rooms ready? Just in case Susan decides to stay.”
I nodded obediently and walked away. But as soon as I was out of sight, my pleasant expression faded.
Tidy up? Get ready? To them, I was nothing more than a maid.
But that was fine. This situation was only temporary.
Once Susan returned–once we reconnected with the Silvermoon Alliance–I’d make sure they paid back every bit of today’s humiliation.
I moved to the window, my gaze fixed on the grove outside.
The parrot was probably still there. Hopefully, Susan would return soon. After all, I had a special ‘surprise‘ waiting for her.
