Chapter 26 Knocking Her Down
Susan’s POV:
“Help! Help! I’m being murdered!”
Curled up in Grandma’s arms, I suddenly heard a sharp ear–piercing scream from upstairs. The voice was so shrill it stabbed into my eardrums like needles.
“Chirpy!”
I shot up straight, my heart pounding. Everyone around me froze in shock before scrambling to react.
Without a second thought, I pushed off the floor and sprinted toward the stairs.
The others rushed after me, and Grandpa, seething with anger, snapped at Zain, “This is Hannah’s doing again, isn’t it? I’ve told you to put more effort into disciplining her! What have you been doing all this, time?”
Zain didn’t say a word, but the scent of his pheromones filled the air, thick with suppressed rage.
I rushed into the room, and the sight before me caused my blood to race.
Hannah had Chirpy in her grasp, slamming the poor bird onto the table over and over. She snarled, “You don’t listen! So I’m going to punish you!”
Chirpy let out desperate cries, feathers flying everywhere. It flailed, its claws scratching Hannah’s arm in a frantic struggle, but she didn’t even seem to feel it. If anything, it only made her angrier.
My face burned hot, rage igniting inside me like a wildfire.
I clenched my teeth, feeling them sharpen instinctively
With my eyes flashing like a wolf’s, I growled, “Stop hurting Chirpy!”
Hannah glared at me, her expression full of defiance like a territorial cub refusing to back down.
She shoved me hard and yelled, “This bird is mine!”
Her fingers tightened around Chirpy’s neck. The tiny bird’s tongue lolled out, its body going limp.
I lost it. Werewolf instincts surged through me, unleashing a strength I didn’t even know I had. With a feral snarl, I lunged, knocking her down in an instant. Even though I was an Omega–physically weaker than most–I wasn’t afraid. Hannah was just a pup like me.
I grabbed her and pinned her to the floor.
The sheer force in my grip shocked even me. Back in Grayclaw Tribe, I’d been in scuffles before, but I was always the one getting pushed around. Never had I been strong enough to overpower someone like this.
But right now, I wasn’t thinking. My mind was clouded with pure, raw fury.
As I locked her in place, my fingers curled like claws, and my fist descended forcefully, striking her squarely in the nose and eye.

Seizing the moment, Chirpy broke free, flapping wildly as it escaped. Feathers scattered through the air, drifting down like snowflakes.
Hannah was a year older than me, but she didn’t stand a chance.
I could feel it–my strength had multiplied. My punches cut through the air with a whooshing force.
The adults stormed in and yanked me off her, but not before I landed one last kick, venting the last of my
rage.
My heartbeat pounded like a drum. The beast inside me was still howling.
Hannah’s wailing filled the room, so loud it felt like it could bring the roof down.
I stood there, chest heaving, my blood still burning with fury.
Then, with a soft flutter of wings, Chirpy landed on my shoulder, trembling but alive. It was as if Chirpy knew I had saved it.
Reaching up, I gently stroked its ruffled feathers. The fire inside me slowly cooled, but the instinct to protect my own still burned strong.
