Chapter 8
Emily’s heart clenched, a way of bitterness washing over her.
All these years, what had she been holding on for with Lawrence?
She yanked her hand free from his grip, taking a step back with mocking smile.
“You’re right, it was all my choice. So, Mr. Parker, let’s cut to the chase. Sign the papers. You go find your sweetheart, and I’ll find my guy. We won’t hold each other back anymore. Isn’t that better?”
Lawrence stood there quietly, his gaze deep and intense, his presence commanding.
“You think hiring Jerry to fight this case guarantees your win? told you, as long as I want, you won’t get a single cent from me. You can either be my wife peacefully or leave with nothing. Make your choice.
“I’ve made my choice. If we can’t settle this, then see you in court.”
Emily didn’t say another word, pulling out her phone to send a message.
Just as she was about to leave, Lawrence’s voice came from behind.
“All your cards are frozen. Even if you walk out that door, where will you go?”
“With one call, no hotel in Emerald City will take
you in.”
Emily, her back to him, bìt her lip. “Lawrence, listen to me. I’d rather sleep on the streets than go back home with you.”
Her phone rang. She answered, her voice trembling, “You said you were nearby. Where are you?”
“Look at the entrance.”
Emily instinctively looked up.
Daniel stepped out of the car, striding towards her in his sharp suit.
“Emily.”
Seeing him, Emily let down her guard, quickly linking her arm with his without a word.
Daniel gently patted her head, asking what happened.
Emily simply said Lawrence had frozen her cards and she had nowhere to go. Daniel’s expression darkened instantly.
He coldly looked at Lawrence, standing not far away, and then led Emily to the front desk, pulling out a card.
“I’ll pay for her room. Let’s see who dares to say otherwise.”
Daniel’s commanding presence left the manager no choice but to comply.
With a swift signature, he pulled Emily away, not sparing Lawrence a glance.

Everyone was stunned.
No one expected someone to step in and pay for Emily’s room ght in front of Lawrence.
What kind of close relationship could lead to such a bold move
Lawrence’s eyes were fixed on Emily and Daniel’s linked arms, his voice low and menacing. “Jerry, you dare take my divorce case? Are you willing to throw away your career for this?”
That “Emily” made him recognize the man before him.
It was the same voice from the call earlier.
Daniel, protecting Emily, didn’t flinch, his cold smile directed at Lawrence. “You don’t even know who I am and you dare threaten me? You think you can take me on?”
“I’ll just consider it Emily’s mistake for wasting three years on you. As long as I’m involved, you won’t win this case.”
With that, he left with Emily.
The hotel staff were too scared to move.
Who was this man, matching Lawrence’s aura?
A group of men in black emerged from the elevator. The leader approached Lawrence. “Mr. Parker, the man has been dealt with as you instructed. He won’t appear in Emerald City again without your permission.”
The car outside sped away, Lawrence’s face growing darker.
“Find out who that guy was and who Emily’s been talking to this past year. I want everything in an hour.”
“Yes, Mr. Parker.”
In the car, Emily and Daniel sat in the back. Daniel, both angry and worried, scolded her. “Have you lost your mind, bringing some random dude to a hotel?”
“Aren’t
you afraid he might be a con artist?”
Daniel had been worried sick on his way over.
Thankfully, nothing happened. Otherwise, he wouldn’t know how to face William.
Emily knew Daniel was concerned, so she clung to his arm, explaining carefully.
“Daniel, you misunderstood. I hired that guy for a high price. He’s got the looks, the physique, a good educati solid family background. Our kid would have been smart and good–looking.”
and a
Unfortunately, Lawrence ruined it.
“By the way, Daniel, please help that guy. Lawrence took him away.”
Lawrence could be ruthless. She didn’t want anything bad to happen.

“Now you’re worried?”
Daniel narrowed his eyes. “Don’t worry. He wouldn’t dare take life. At most, he’ll rough him up and kick him out. But you, how will you face him after peshing him this far?”
Emily, just starting to relax, was taken aback.
“What do you mean?”
“Your grandpa wants you and Lawrence to visit him. He won’t continue treatment otherwise. You know his dying wish is to see a great–grandchild. If he finds out about the divorce, it might kill him.”
William was known for his temper.
Only Emily could handle him. None of his sons dared to cross him. “Grandpa’s being childish again. Daniel, why didn’t you tell me earlier?”
Thinking of her harsh words earlier, Emily felt a wave of despair. “I’ve already sent the divorce papers. How can I bring him to see Grandpa now?”
“True, Lawrence can be insufferable.”
Daniel had been too angry to hold back earlier.
“Your grandpa’s health is declining. The doctor said he can’t handle too much stress. So, I think it’s best to keep the divorce from him for now.”
Hearing about William’s condition, Emily felt awful.
She hadn’t visited him because she was busy with the Parker family’s birthday party.
She’d only heard his voice over the phone, not realizing he was hiding his condition from her.
“Daniel, I understand. I won’t let Grandpa find out.”
Just then, her phone rang.
It was James.
James was the only one in the Parker family who truly cared for her.
Emily would never ignore his call.
James’s voice was gentle and loving. “Emily, I know you’re hurt and upset. Come home. I’ll stand by you.”
Emily’s eyes welled up, her voice trembling. “Grandpa…”
“It’s not your fault, Emily.”
James understood everything. “It’s all Lawrence’s fault. Don’t worry. I’ll always be on your side. I’ve told him if he dares divorce you, he won’t get a penny of the Parker family fortune. He can get lost.”

Emily was stunned.
No wonder Lawrence was making things difficult and refusing divorce.
It was all for his own benefit.
She had been deluding herself.
But James’s support moved her deeply.
“Grandpa, even if I’m not with Lawrence, I’ll always consider you my family. I’ll come see you whenever you want.”
“Can you come now?”
James’s voice was sincere. “I’m really worried about you being out there alone.”
