Chapter 9
“Grandpa, I’m planning to vist Grandpa William now. Can I go ter I come back?
Emily didn’t want to hurt the old man’s feelings, so she planned to visit when Lawrence wasn’t around.
“Your grandpa?”
James looked like he had heard something shocking. “Emily, you didn’t tell your grandpa about your divorce with Lawrence, did you?”
“No, Grandpa. Can you help me keep it from him too? I don’t want him to worry.”
Emily knew about the friendship between James and William. They had known each other since they were young, and the marriage arrangement was made back then.
“I was just about to talk to you about this. Your grandpa called me.”
James sounded tense. “From what he said, it seems like he heard some rumors… He insisted I send him a photo of you and Lawrence together.”
“I told him you young folks were out having fun, and he let it go for now. But I have a feeling he’ll call again tonight. If the truth comes out, I’m really afraid of his temper… Emily, come back first. Let’s figure out how to keep this from your grandpa together, okay?”
Emily’s heart tightened. She wasn’t afraid of William storming over to the Parker family. She was genuinely worried about his health.
After a few seconds, Emily relented. “Alright, Grandpa. I’ll head over now.”
“Good, I’ll be waiting for you at home.”
Ending the call, Emily asked Daniel to take her back to the Parker Villa.
In the confined space of the car, Daniel had overheard the phone conversation. Given William’s health, even he didn’t dare take any risks.
He instructed the driver to turn around and head to the Parker Villa.
When the car stopped outside the gate, Emily told Daniel to leave.
As soon as she stepped inside, she heard laughter and chatter from the hall.
Led by Sophia, many people from their social circle were present.
Emily immediately spotted the mother–daughter duo sitting next to Sophia.
Olivia and her mother, Elowen.
Elowen was dressed in a bright red gown, her face heavily made up, looking obsequiously at Sophia, saying something.
Sophia glanced at Olivia, who blushed immediately.

As Olivia turned, she saw Entily coming in from outside.
Olivia’s
eyes flickered, and she spoke as if unintentionally, “Mr Parker, please don’t say that. Lawrence is Emily’s husband. He married Emily. How could Interfere now…”
“Why not?” ”
Sophia had no fondness for Emily. If the two divorced, she’d be the happiest.
“Lawrence liked you back then. If she hadn’t insisted on bringing that old marriage contract to my father, I might have had a grandchild by now.”
“This is my decision. Once she’s out of the picture, I’ll have Lawrence marry you immediately.”
Sophia had just finished speaking when Emily walked past without ever glancing at her.
In front of so many people, it was as if she didn’t exist.
A country girl, after all, had no manners.
“Stop right there!”
Sophia’s face darkened, and she shouted at Emily, “You’ve been out all night. Where have you been fooling around? Can’t you see who’s here? Your mother and sister are here, and you don’t even notice?”
Emily turned coldly, “My mom’s been dead for years. It’d be strange if I saw her.”
“You…”
Elowen tried to mediate softly, “Mrs. Parker, please don’t be angry. This child has always misunderstood me. If she doesn’t want to call me, that’s fine. I’m used to it.”
“Misunderstanding?”
Emily sneered, stopping in her tracks. “Come on, tell me. What misunderstanding could I have about a homewrecker who climbed her way up using her body? And you dare put on airs in front of me? You think you’re worthy?”
In front of everyone, Elowen had to hold back her anger. “It’s not like that, Emily. We heard you and Lawrence were having
issues and wanted to check on you. Your father misses you and wants you to come home.”
“Which home? The one you and your daughter have taken over?
Emily’s gaze grew colder. “Or have you forgotten how you schemed to drive me out? Now you come here to put on a show? Elowen, even if you don’t find it disgusting, I do.”
Five days after her mother passed away, Michael brought Elowen and Olivia, who was about her age, into their home.
Emily was drowning in grief, giving the mother–daughter duo an opportunity.
If William hadn’t found her and taken her away, she might not have survived.
To present herself as a good wife for Lawrence, she had endured and avoided any contact with them for three years after

marrying into the Parker family.
Even when Lawrence secretly supported the Johnson family, she tolerated it.
But how they had come to her.
Since that was the case, she saw no reason to hold back.
“By the way, the villa you’re living in now belongs to my mother. It’s time for you to leave.”
Hearing this, Elowen and Olivia tur

you talk to them? Calling them homewreckere
Sophia, sitting in the middle, slammed her hand on the table. How dare you! They are your mother and sister. Is this how Do you know that everyone in Emerald City knows it was your mother who cheated first? She couldn’t keep a man, so why blame others?”
Sophia didn’t want to see Emily anymore.
Her bright red nails pointed directly at Emily a few meters away “I should never have let Lawrence marry you. Get out of the Parker Villa right now. Someone, throw her out.”
The servants and the butler exchanged glances, not daring to move.
Everyone in the Parker family knew that while Emily wasn’t favored by Lawrence, she was highly valued by James.
He always saved the best things for Emily, even over his wife.
Finally, the butler stepped in. “Mrs. Parker, Mr. James Parker was just asking about Miss Emily Parker today. If he can’t find her later, he might get angry.”
Sophia’s face turned even darker.
She didn’t dare go against James.
Olivia stepped forward. “Mrs. Parker, Emily’s always been like this. Please don’t let my mother and me cause a rift between you two. How about I apologize to Emily and see if I can calm her down?”
Sophia’s anger flared up again.
“She doesn’t deserve your apology. Who does she think she is? A country girl compared to a wealthy family’s child like you?”
Olivia smiled awkwardly and walked over to Emily.
When she was just a step away, she whispered so only the two of them could hear.
“Emily, I really admire you. Three years of a sexless marriage, plus the whole family’s hostility, and you ll held on. But Lawrence loves me, not you. Staying here only makes you an eyesore.”
Emily’s voice was icy. “Are you looking for a beating?”
Olivia raised an eyebrow. “I don’t believe you’d dare hit me in front of everyone.”

Olivia was slapped so hard she staggered. Before she could react, another loud slap followed.
“Didn’t you bet I wouldn’t dare hit you? Want to bet again?”
Olivia’s face swelled from the slaps. Facing Emily’s imposing presence, she instinctively stepped back….
She bumped into something and looked up to see the very person she had been thinking about: Lawrence.
