The Wolf and the Fae
Chapter 116
Helios never did come. She waited till it was almost midnight and she forced herself not to cry through the night.
The sun hung low on the horizon, casting a warm, golden hue over the expansive courtyard of Helios grand estate. Lucia stood at her window, gazing absently at the sprawling gardens below.n garden she had come to love in recent times as they had made memories there. It was a view she had admired countless times, yet bday, it felt strangely foreign. A heavy sense of unease clung to the air, a whisper of secrets yet to be unveiled.
Determined to uncover Helios business, Lucia made her way to the servants‘ quarters. The usually bustling area was quieter than usual, the servants huddled in small groups, their conversations halting abruptly as she approached. She spotted Mira, one of the younger maids, slipping out of the kitchen door, and hurried to intercept her.
“Mira,” Lucia called softly, her voice steady but laced with an unspoken demand for answers. The young maid froze, her eyes widening in surprise and fear.
“Lady Lucia,” Mira stammered, dropping into a quick curtsy.
“There’s no need for formalities,” Lucia said, her tone gentle but insistent. “I need to know what’s going on. Why is everyone acting so strangely?”
Mira hesitated, her gaze flickering around as if seeking an escape. “I’m not sure what you mean, my lady.”
Lucia took a step closer, her expression softening to convey trust. “Mira, please. can sense that something is wrong. If there is something I need to know, I would rather hear it from you than from rumors.”
The maid’s shoulders slumped, and she cast a quick glance around to ensure they were alone. “There are whispers, my lady. Whispers that Lord Helios has been meeting with a woman in the north wing of the estate.”
A chill ran down Lucia’s spine, her breath catching in her throat. “A woman?” she repeated, her voice barely above a whisper.
Mira nodded, her eyes filled with sympathy. “Yes, my lady. I heard she was brought in a few nights ago. They say she’s to… warm his
bed.”
Lucia felt as though the ground had shifted beneath her feet. She gripped the doorframe for support, her mind racing. Helios had always been a man of complex desires, but this betrayal cut deeper than any political maneuver. She thanked Mira with a distracted nod and made her way back to her chambers, each step heavy with the weight of this new revelation.
Once inside, she sank onto the edge of her bed, her thoughts a chaotic swirl of anger, hurt, and confusion. How could Helios do this to her? She had stood by his side through every trial, had been his confidante and his lover. To be cast aside so casually was a wound she had never anticipated.
Lucia knew she needed to confront him, to demand answers. She stood, her resolve hardening with each passing moment. The corridors seemed to stretch endlessly as she made her way to Helios private quarters. The guards stationed outside exchanged nervous glances but made no move to stop her. They had learned long ago that Lucia was not a woman to be trifled with.
She pushed open the heavy wooden door and stepped inside. Helios was seated at his desk, engrossed in a stack of parchments. He looked up, his expression shifting from surprise to concern as he noted the stormy look in her eyes.
“Lucia,” he began, rising to his feet, but she held up a hand to silence him.
“Is it true?” she demanded, her voice trembling with barely contained emotion. “Have you brought another woman here to… replace me?
Helios‘ face darkened, a shadow passing over his features. “It’s not what you think,” he said, his tone guarded.

“Then tell me what it is!” she cried, taking a step forward. “Because I know is that the man I trusted, the man I gave everything to, has betrayed me in the worst possible way.”
He sighed, running a hand through his hair, “Larcia, it’s complicated. There are forces at play here that you don’t understand.”
“Then make me understand,” she pleaded, her voice breaking. “Help me see why you would do this to us.”
Helios looked away, the silence stretching painfully between them. When he finally spoke, his voice was barely a whisper. “I did it to
protect you.”
Lucia recoiled as if struck. “Protect me? By humiliating me? By taking another woman into your bed?”
“the rebels are still out there and I need my powers up to protect you. I swear its not forever as I will take care of it as quickly as 1 can but the night is coming and believe it or not, I need some sort of relief and coming anywhere near you could trigger the bond, 1 just.”
The words fell like stones between them, heavy and cold. Lucia stared at him, her heart aching with a pain she could barely comprehend. “And what about my loyalty, Helios? What about us?”
He reached out to her, but she stepped back, her eyes filling with tears. “Lucia, please. Try to understand. This is temporary. nothing
more.”
But the damage was done. Lucia turned and fled the room, her mind a whirlwind of grief and betrayal. She had entered the chamber seeking answers, but all she had found was the cruel reality of their world–a world where love was a pawn in a game of power, and trust was a fragile illusion.
she tried her best not to make a sound as she walked out the door. if he wanted to sleep around with another right under the same room as she, then she could go ahead, she did not give a damn. or at least that was what she tried to tell herself
As she ran through the corridors, the castle that had once felt like home now seemed like a prison, its walls closing in around her. She needed to escape, to find a place where she could breathe, where she could begin to heal. But for now, all she could do was run, her heart breaking with each step, the shadows of betrayal following close behind.
