Chapter 124
Lucia’s heart pounded as the grand gates of the Academy swung open before her. The sprawling campus beyond was a labyrinth of gothic architecture, manicured gardens, and bustling students clad in uniform. She clutched her letter tightly, feeling its weight resonate with the promise of a new beginning.
“Welcome, Lucia,” a deep voice greeted her as she stepped inside the building. A tall, imposing figure stood at the entrance. His silver hair shimmered in the fading sun, and his piercing blue eyes seemed to look straight into her soul. He was the Headmaster, an aura of authority emanating from him, that she just knew who he was.
“Thank you, sir,” Lucia replied, her voice steady despite the butterflies in her stomach.
He gave a small nod, a hint of a smile playing on his lips. “Come with me. We have much to discuss.”
–
They walked through the grand halls of the Academy, the Headmaster pointing out various landmarks grounds, and the dining hall. Students whispered as they passed, curious about the new arrival who seemed to have caught the the library, the training Headmaster’s personal attention.
Finally, they arrived at his office, a vast room filled with ancient tomes and artifacts from a time long past. The Headmaster gestured for Lucia to sit. “Your arrival is timely, Lucia. We have been expecting you, your mate told us all about you”
Lucia raised her brows “yes, he told me to hand you this” she said giving the letter to him. She did not miss the way his hands brushed over hers, making her uncomfortable.
He tore the letter open, his eyes following each letter written as he took in the message
He leaned back in his chair, steepling his fingers. He looked from her back to the papers, before he gave a very deep sigh
“the letter, if you don’t mind me asking, what is it? he wouldn’t let me see it and I am just curious.”
“you would find out soon enough, my dear, we will get to that in due course. For now, there are immediate matters to address.”
He handed her a small, ornate key. “This is to your mate’s room I am sure everything would be to your taste, if it isn’t… please let it be, he can be a bit cranky when things in his room is moved” he laughed at what he said but then wiped it off his face when he saw that I was not laughing. “one of our best warriors in training, will be your guide and companion here. It is essential that you both start on the right foot.”
Lucia’s fingers closed around the key, a mixture of curiosity and apprehension bubbling within her. “my guardian? I will have one?”
The Headmaster’s gaze sharpened. “Yes, we have assigned someone to you. A person who is capable to protect you well and will ensure your safety. Even better than some of my warriors who have been in this game”
The door to the office creaked open, and Lucia turned to see a tall, slender figure with long, chestnut hair and striking green eyes. Her breath caught in her throat as recognition hit her like a lightning bolt.
“Samantha?” she whispered, incredulity lacing her voice.
Samantha’s expression was equally shocked but quickly masked by a calm facade. “Hello, your grace” she bowed
Lucia stood, a mix of emotions swirling within her. she was confused that Sam had greeted her that way, but then again it was not like they had left each other on the best note. she especially. Samantha had been her best friend, her confidante, until their falling out months ago. Now, here she was, assigned as Lucia’s bodyguard. The tension was palpable, a myriad of unspoken words hanging in the air.
The Headmaster observed them both carefully. “it seems you people know each other that would make your working together easy. If she isn’t up to your standard please, feel free to let me know”

Lucia nodded slowly, still processing the sudden turn of events. “Yes Headmaster/
“Good,” he said, rising from his chair, “Now, Lancia, let Samantha show you to Helios‘ room. I will see you both tomorrow for further instructions.”
As they left the office, the atmosphere between them was thick with unresolved tension. They walked in silence until they reached the dormitory wing. Lucia had a lot on her mind and did not know where to start from.
“Here we are,” Samantha said, her voice devoid of the warmth it once held. She opened the door to Helios‘ room, revealing a spacious yet cozy living area adorned with books and personal mementos.
Lucia stepped inside, feeling the weight of her new life pressing down on her. She turned to Samantha, searching for a glimpse of their old friendship. She did not realise it, but she had missed her friend a great deal. she took a step towards her, but sam stood, blank faced and all “Sam, 1-”
But before she could finish, a powerful tremor shook the building, knocking them both off balance. An eerie silence followed, only to be shattered by an alarm blaring through the halls.
“What’s happening?” Lucia exclaimed, her eyes wide with fear.
Samantha’s face was set in grim determination. “Stay close, Lucia. We need to find the headmaster. Now.”
They dashed through the chaos, the Academy’s walls seeming to close in around them. Lucia’s mind raced with questions, but there was no time for answers. As they turned a corner, they saw a figure at the end of the hall, standing still amidst the pandemonium.
“Helios!” Samantha called out.

The figure turned, revealing not the headmaster, but a stranger with cold, menacing eyes. He raised a hand, dark energy crackling
around it.
Lucia’s heart pounded as the realization hit her – they were under attack, and the danger was far greater than she had imagined.
“Run!” Samantha shouted, but it was too late. The stranger’s power surged towards them, and everything went black.
