Chapter 20- birthday drama–2

“I didn’t leave anything out, lu.” she said, shortening my name “I had a friend of mine make this. And I am just picking it up.” I looked at her, daring not to blink. I felt like I was in a dream, it had to be. That was the only possible explanation for this.

“Dear,” she said searching my eyes for some answers. “would you like to explain to me what’s going on?” I felt scared.

“Ma, I’m scared.” My fear cracked in between as I spoke to her. “I just want everything to be normal. it’s like every day I wake and there is a new drama waiting to happen. I’m tired.” More tears flowed down my eyes. This was definitely not how I had planned to spend my birthday a few weeks ago.

“Sweety,” she said dropping the cake on the side stand and hugged me “You can talk to me. I would listen” It was the second time I had heard this today. First was Helios now she. “You know that everything will be alright, you will meet someone who is just right for you” I heard the pain in her voice.

“But why? Why couldn’t he love me enough to keep me? He wouldn’t even let me go. Do you know how hard it is seeing him every time knowing he belongs to another?” I aggressively wiped the tears. “because I’m weak” I was just letting it all out at this point, everything I had been bottling up.

“and then my own friend. The one I thought would stay by my side, she betrayed me and now I can’t even be mad at her because of the guilt of her getting poisoned because of me.” She handed me a tissue from her purse. One I just happily collected as I continued talking. “and they think I don’t notice, but I see how differently everyone treats me since after the mating season. It’s not my fault” Several incidents of how people treated me differently flashed through my mind. I’ve tried to ignore it as best as I could which led to bottling it up and now, I needed to let it out.

“Honey,” she said looking at me with pity. “You know I would never leave you right? I would always be there for you, no matter what.” She said lifting my face to look at her.

I moved in to hug her. “Thank you, ma, I know you’ll always be by my side”

“Now, how about cake?” I nodded even though I was skeptical about it. I still wasn’t over what had happened this morning.

“Can…. can I have the first bite?” she said,, lolling at me with a smile.

“Of course dear, I know how much you love to take the first bite.” I smiled, not telling

the real reason.

I wouldn’t be able to forgive myself if the cake turned out to be poisoned. I would rath

take the bite and die than she.

I took it. Smiling as she watched me talke a bit out of it.

Ma had finally gone to her room to nest, tired from all the day’s events. While I said, laying on the bed this time,, waiting for sleep (to take me.

I looked at the door, I wasnitt expecting anybody this late at night.

“Who is it?” There wass mo response. Instead, another knock came, prompting me to sta up and open the dom.

“Kaden?” I looked att him shellshocked. We hadn’t talked, I didn’t even have the time t talk with him through the whole sam incident and I definitely hadn’t talked to himssin he woke up from the migraine attack.

“Happy birthday?” He said looking at me, smiling.

II could have swom the migraine hit his head a little too hard but I was going to licepm comments to myself. I didn’t need another night in the cellar.
