chapter 90

Helios maintained a composed facade, his regal demeanor unyielding. He looked every bit the divine monarch, his features calm and dignified. Yet beneath the surface, a storm of emotions raged. He forced a polite smile, though his heart ached with every glance at Lucia. The silence between them was deafening, filled with unspoken words and shattered dreams

Thank you for joining me for breakfast, Lucia,Helios said, his voice steady and formal. As stood by the edge of the door, part of his body by the other part of the door

Lucia nodded, her eyes downcast. Of course, Helios. It wasnice.”

Nice. The word hung in the air, a stark contrast to the passion and love they once shared. Heliosheart clenched, but he kept his expression neutral. He couldn’t afford to let his

emotions slip. Not now. Not when she was there

Have you made any plans for the day?he asked, unable to pull his body completely

through the other side of the door completely

I have some matters with the council. I might have made myself a friend amongst them”

Helios nodded, understanding all too well. He was not all too bothered now that he got

his powers back and the story of how he took down the rebel was by now spread to other

realms, it would be a while before any other person would be trying to dig their graves for

now

That sounds lovely. I hope you find what you are looking for,he said, his voice betraying

none of the turmoil within

Lucia’s eyes met his for a brief moment, a flicker of pain and longing passing between them. But she quickly looked away, her expression once more composed. Helios felt a pang of sorrow, but he remained steadfast

The meal had ended, or at least Lucia had decided that she could not take it anymore

because she stood up and approached the door where he was standing. For a brief moment, his mind went to the possibility that he stood up challenge him, to question him on why he broke their bond or something, anything. I had a lovely breakfast” she said

with a smile. You could tell that the smile was forced, but he really did not have the right

to comment, not anymore

*Take care, Lucia,he said, his voice barely above a whisper

And you, Helios, she replied, her eyes glistening with unshed tears which she quickly blinked away, causing him to think if he imagined it

With a final, lingering look, Lucia walked away, leaving Helios alone in the dining hall. He watched her go, his heart breaking anew with each step she took. When she finally disappeared from sight, he closed the door and leaned against it, his composure slipping

The weight of his emotions crashed over him like a tidal wave. Helios clenched his fists, his nails digging into his palms. He couldn’t allow himself to break down. Not here. Not where anyone could see. He straightened, drawing on every ounce of his strength, and made his way to his private chambers

Once inside, Helios locked the door and leaned against it, his breath coming in ragged gasps. The room, usually a sanctuary of peace and solace, now felt suffocating. He staggered to the center, his vision blurring with tears he could no longer hold back

With a strangled cry, Helios fell to his knees, his hands covering his face. The mask of the unyielding king shattered, revealing the raw, unfiltered anguish beneath. He sobbed uncontrollably, his cries echoing in the empty room. The sorrow he had kept at bay for so long poured out, each tear a testament to the love he had lost

Helios clutched at his chest, as if trying to hold his broken heart together. The memories of Luciaher laughter, her touch, her smileflooded his mind, each one a dagger to his soul. He had tried so hard to remain strong, to keep his emotions hidden. But now, alone in his chambers, he could no longer maintain the facade

The most powerful king in all the realms, always radiant and unbreakable, was now a man undone by grief. Helios cried until he had no tears left, his body wracked with the force of his sorrow. The silence that followed was heavy, a stark contrast to the storm of emotions that had raged within him

It annoyed him. He did not understand why he was acting this way. Sure it was sad that he had to reject her as his mate, but there was no other way around it.but he could not understand why his emotions were so heightened

Exhausted and broken, Helios collapsed onto the floor, his golden robes pooling around

him. He lay there, staring at the ceiling, his eyes red and swollen. The light of the morning sun filtered through the windows, casting a gentle glow over him. But for Helios, the light brought no comfort. It only served as a reminder of the emptiness he felt

In the solitude of his chambers, Helios allowed himself to grieve. The king who had once

commanded the sun now lay in darkness, his heart shattered and his spirit weary. And as the day passed, he remained there, a solitary figure lost in his own sorrow, waiting for the

strength to face another day
