The Wolf and the Fac

chapter 94

Lucia sat in the grand parlor, its opulence doing little to comfort het turmoil. The afternoon sun poured through the tall windows, casting a warm glow that felt almost mocking given her present state. She clutched a silken handkerchief, already soaked with her tears. Each sob that escaped her lips echoed through the silent room amplifying the loneliness that gnawed at her heart

Constance entered quietly, her expression softening as she took in the sight of her dear friend in such despair. Lucia, my dear, she murmured, crossing the room swiftly. What has happened?”

Lucia looked up, her eyes red and puffy, and with a voice choked with emotion, she whispered, It’s Helios.”

Constance’s brow furrowed. She knelt beside Lucia’s chair, taking her hands gently in hers. Tell me everything.”

Struggling to find her voice amidst the sobs, Lucia began, II overheard the servants talking. They saidthey said Helios has taken another woman to warm his bed. I was a fool thinking I could confront him about it, the bastard didn’t even deny it!”

The words hung in the air, heavy with pain and betrayal. Constance’s eyes widened with a mixture of shock and anger. How could he?she whispered, more to herself than to Lucia

Lucia nodded, her grip tightening on Constance’s hands. I couldn’t believe it at first. I thought… I thought they must be mistaken..”

A fresh wave of tears spilled down her cheeks, and Constance pulled her into an embrace, holding her tightly. Oh, Lucia, I am so sorry, she said softly. He doesn’t deserve you.”

Lucia clung to her friend, drawing comfort from her presence. I thought he loved me, Constance. I thought I was the only one for

him.”

Constance’s jaw tightened. She wanted to defend him, the night of passion for fae’s was for wolves how they felt on the full moon or times when they were in heat. If they were neglected, they could become dangerous and sex crazed. But she knew she couldn’t, so she had to be what Lucia needed at the moment. A friend, someone to be at her side

Lucia pulled back slightly, looking into Constance’s eyes. What am I to do?she asked, her voice trembling

Constance cupped Lucia’s face in her hands, her gaze fierce and determined. You must not let him destroy you. You are worth more than this betrayal. Hold your head high and show him that you will not be broken.”

Lucia sniffed, wiping her tears with the back of her hand. But it hurts so much.”

I know,Constance said softly. But you will endure. You have me, and we will get through this together.”

Lucia nodded, a flicker of resolve igniting in her heart. She took a deep breath, trying to steady herself. Thank you, Constance. I don’t know what I would do without you.”

Constance smiled gently. You will never have to find out. I am here for you, always.”

The flickering light of the hearth cast dancing shadows across Helioss chambers, bathing the room in a warm, intimate glow. The woman beside him, clad in delicate silks, traced her fingers along his chest, her touch intended to ignite passion. But Helios’s mind was elsewhere, trapped in the stormy echoes of his earlier argument with Lucia

Helios, the woman whispered, her voice soft and inviting, you’re so distant tonight. What’s troubling you?”

Helios turned his gaze to her, but his eyes seemed to look through her, into some faroff place. He forced a smile, brushing a stray lock of hair from her face. It’s nothing,he lied, his voice hollow. Just some matters of the estate.”

She pouted playfully, trying to reclaim his attention, but her efforts only deepened his distraction. As she moved closer, her breath warm against his skin, Helios’s mind replayed the heated exchange with Lucia

The way she had looked at him, her eyes a storm of hurt and anger. Her words, sharp and accusing, still rang in his ears. How could you, Helios? How could you betray me like this?she had cried, her voice breaking with emotion

He had tried to explain, to justify his actions, but the truth was a bitter pill to swallow. He had been careless, thoughtless, and now he was paying the price. Lucia’s anguish had pierced him deeper than he cared to admit

The woman beside him shifted, her patience wearing thin. Ate you sure it’s nothing?she asked again, this time with a hint of

frustration

Helios sighed, sitting up and swinging his legs over the side of the bed. I’m sorry,he murmured. I just can’t do this tonight.”

She watched him with a mixture of confusion and irritation as he stood and began to pace the room. The ornate tapestries and luxurious furnishings felt like a prison, closing in on him. His thoughts were a tangled mess, each strand leading back to Lucia

He remembered the way she had trembled, the tears that had streamed down her face. He had never seen her so broken, and it twisted something deep inside him. The guilt was a relentless tormentor, whispering incessantly in his ear

my lord, the woman called out, her voice breaking into his reverie. What’s wrong with you? I’m here, yet your mind is miles away.”

He turned to her, his expression one of profound regret. I’m sorry,he said again, more earnestly this time. You deserve better than my divided attention.”

With that, he left the room, the soft click of the door closing behind him. He wandered through the dimly lit corridors of his estate, the silence only amplifying the turmoil within. His steps led him to the gardens, where the cool night air provided a brief respite

As he walked among the fragrant blooms, he couldn’t escape the image of Lucia’s tearstreaked face. Her words had been more than a mere argument; they were a revelation. She had laid bare the depth of her love for him, and in doing so, had shown him the extent of his own failings

He leaned against a marble column, staring up at the starstudded sky. The weight of his actions pressed heavily upon him. He had sought solace in the arms of another, but it had only magnified his emptiness

Lucia. Her name was a balm and a wound all at once. He knew he had to make amends, to find a way to repair the damage he had caused. But the path to redemption was shrouded in uncertainty

For now, all he could do was stand beneath the vast expanse of the heavens and vow to himself that he would not let this betrayal define him. He would fight to win back Lucia’s trust, no matter how long it took. And perhaps, in the process, he would rediscover the parts of himself he had lost along the way
