He sat on a chaise lounge in my study.“Something I need to let you know in advance.”
“Go ahead.”
Jason pondered for a few seconds.“Tanner wants to join your project department.”
I already guessed his overly polite tone meant trouble, but he still managed to land a sucker punch. My wolf growled, “HE’S JUST A BASTARD!”
My face visibly grew cold. “There are so many departments in the company, why does she have to go and ruin the project department?”
Jason frowned. “How can you say ‘ruin‘? She wants to achieve something, which is commendable.”

“…I was so angry I could spit blood.“If she wants to achieve something, you can give her department to play with, but not the project department! That’s “my department! They’re all “my” people!”
“Be reasonable, Sophia. You’ve resigned! You’re no longer with Horizon Group! And the project department isn’t yours!”
I choked, my throat tight with emotion.
Yes, the company was his. What right did I have to disagree, what right did I have to challenge him? He was going to use the fruits of my labor to please his new lover. What could I do?
Seeing my distress, Jason softened his tone slightly.“Don’t think of her so badly. I guarantee she’s not going to cause trouble; I’ll keep an eye on her.”
“Whatever.”
My voice was low and soft.
I was tired; I didn’t want to care anymore.
Jason’s irritation simmered. “The reason I told you this is to avoid upsetting you, like now. You’re very hostile towards Tanner; I know you don’t like her, but you have to consider position. The two families are cooperating, and can I really jeopardize the relationship with the
my difficult Cooper Family because of your feelings?”
Me and my wolf was shocked by his preposterous reasoning.
What had I done wrong? My partner had been taken, my career had been stolen, and now I was expected to be respectful and accepting of his new lover?
“Ha…”
Apparently, when a person’s grief reaches its peak, they can only laugh; a wave of nausea washed
over me.

Three days later, I went to the company to hand over my work.
Tanner, dressed in Chanel, moved into my office with the air of a victor. She threw away all the furniture and decorations; the wall of trophies I had proudly displayed was carelessly discarded into a trash can.
The entire project department was in an uproar. Everyone had been speculating who would replace me as head of the project department. Not necessarily someone stronger, but at least not a complete idiot! Apparently, according to the secretaries in the executive office, Tanner didn’t even know how to use a printer; she spent her days snacking and playing games. When she got a virus on her computer from downloading games, she aggressively commandeered the secretaries” computers, deleting important files from one poor secretary’s computer. The most unbelievable part is that the CEO fired the “victim“.
No one dared to imagine the chaos she’d wreak on the project department.
In my office, I began the handover process with a neutral expression. However, as I picked up some important documents, Ms. Cooper launched into a passionate speech.
“Sophia Wells, how does it feel?” Tanner sat in my chair, condescendingly looking down at
- me. “No partner, no job. You’ve worked so hard for so many years, toiling away at
your
build career, and I can take it all with the flick of a wrist. Do you know why? Because I’m different from you. I’m superior, you’re inferior. I have people to support me, but you don’t. In our circle, I’ve seen plenty of pretty, lowly things like you, a powerless but beautiful omega – mere playthings for them to satisfy their desires. Ha, still fantasizing about bonding with the Winter Family? Too ambitious.”
