“Jason, what are you looking at?”
Seeing his distraction, Tanner tugged at his sleeve.
His view was blocked by the trees, so he couldn’t see clearly what was happening there. Jason looked away. “Nothing.”
He looked at the road ahead, his thoughts heavy. But he didn’t sense anything unusual through the bond.
I went to see Xander. He was standing by a tree answering a phone call. He glanced back at me. Seeing that he was on a call, I stopped and retreated to a mushroom–shaped pavilion behind. him.
I rubbed my forehead, realizing how foolish I’d been.
After Xander hung up, I walked over, feeling embarrassed yet trying to remain composed.“Mr. Shaw, you’re perceptive; I don’t even understand the situation, I’m indeed not suitable to be your secretary. I apologize for the bother.”
“You followed me here just to prove you’re unsuitable? To tell me this?” Xander raised an eyebrow.
I was utterly defenseless against his words.
I gave an awkward laugh; since my job application had failed anyway, I stopped pretending. “Of course, I came to try to secure the job, but my initial impression on you was really bad, and I also made a fool of myself today, so I wouldn’t get the job anyway, and I would like to end this without offending you.”
Xander’s expression was cold. He’s aura turned aggressive and dangeous immediately. “Do you think I rejected you because of these reasons?”

“You came to apply for a job as my secretary dressed like that. If I had accepted, wouldn’t it make people think I just care about appearances? Even if I did care about appearances, I wouldn’t advertise it so blatantly.”
My face flushed crimson. My wolf was stunned.
From my cheeks to my ears, it was so red it could bleed. He was mocking me for trying to get the position through my looks, and he disdained it.
I didn’t bother explaining myself; I didn’t have the face to stay any longer. I said goodbye awkwardly and hastily, “I’ve learned my lesson. I’ll go now. Goodbye.”
I left without waiting for his response.

When Ivy and Ethan returned, they were surprised to find only Xander there.

“She left, Xander replied.

Xander cut her off.“She doesn’t seem like it.”
Ivy was sharp; with just five words, she understood the problem. She thought she had seen a lot of men’s inherent flirtatious habits and thought everyone would fall for it; who knew Xander was a vegetarian monk?
“Oh my, this is a huge misunderstanding,” she immediately tried to rectify the situation.“It’s all my fault. Sophia wasn’t dressed like that when she arrived; I thought her clothes were too…so I forced her to change into the outfit I brought.”
Xander was speechless.
When I got home, I immediately changed my clothes.
I sat at the vanity, feeling rather dejected. Now that I had left Horizon Group and Jason, was I really nothing? My wolf and I were a bit lost today.
After my low spirits subsided somewhat, I took out my phone to apologize to Ivy. I had put my phone on silent to avoid being disturbed during the job interview. When I turned it on, I had countless missed calls.
From Jason. And Ivy.
I ignored the former and called Ivy.“Sorry, sorry, I wasn’t feeling well; I had a bit of low blood sugar, so I left early and forgot to tell you.”
