My heart raced as I reviewed our conversation. He said he was going home to sleep, and I said the same, so… so what?! How was I supposed to respond to that?!
In Xander’s view, the stunning beauty who’d dominated the ballroom just moments ago now had these big, innocent fox eyes, looking confused and troubled like a little girl caught off guard. That blend of naiveté and allure, pure and seductive, could make a man’s insides tingle…
Xander looked away. His wolf mocked him,” YOU HAD ERECTION, HA! FOR A LITTLE OMEGA!”
Seeing he wasn’t going to press the issue, I lowered my head too. The conversation ended abruptly. The elevator reached my floor, and I politely said goodbye.“Good night, Mr. Shaw. Sleep well.”
He gave a noncommittal “hmm.”
I stepped out, watching the elevator doors close. Just as I was about to breathe a sigh of relief, a slender, white finger suddenly appeared in the crack of the door, and it opened again.
…?
My relaxed nerves tightened., my wolf was a bit terrified of him.
“I tried on the suit,” Xander said calmly.
Oh, that.
I smiled.“Did it fit?”
“Not really. The shoulders are too narrow, and the pants are too short.”
”
”
I froze, sighing inwardly.“Then… maybe I should just pay you back.”
He didn’t respond to my offer. He just stared at me with eyes as deep and vast as the starry sky, his expression unreadable. My wolf vaguely sensed something.
The elevator doors slowly closed again.
I stood there, utterly bewildered. What did that mean? Good or bad? Couldn’t he just give me a straight answer?! This guessing game was exhausting. That’s why I’d ended the conversation so quickly earlier; talking to him was incredibly stressful… my brain cells were dying by the minute.
Realizing I was complaining about him, I remembered he’d saved my life and had even humbled himself to testify for me tonight. His presence in the park was also out of concern for me. Thinking about that, I felt a little guilty.
I walked into my apartment, tossed my bag aside, and collapsed onto the sofa, closing my eyes. fell asleep instantly.

At thePack Enforcer station, Jason stared at the nine photos the Pack Enforcer placed before him: eight men and one woman. The eight rogues looked sleazy, like rats from a sewer. He couldn’t bear to imagine what would happen if Sophia had truly been defiled by these disgusting creatures. He couldn’t even begin to imagine her despair.
“Your partner said she was injected with a drug last night and taken to a hotel room. She called you three times; you didn’t answer the first two, and Tanner answered the third call. Your partner recorded the calls. Let me play it for you.”
The Pack Enforcer pressed play. Jason listened again, reliving the torment. The phrase, “She called three times,” connected the events, painting a horrifying picture… His head rested on my arm, eyes brimming with tears.

“Tell us why you didn’t answer your partner’s calls? And why was your phone in your mistress’s possession?”
The Pack Enforcer’s tone was official, cold, and slightly contemptuous.
Jason calmed down and looked up.“I was working late at the office last night. Tanner… she entered my office. She took my phone, saying she wanted to play a game. I was busy with work and didn’t pay attention.”
“You let your mistress play with such a private item as your phone? While you have a partner?” This explanation wasn’t convincing.
“You can check the surveillance footage; my office has cameras.”
“Don’t worry, we’ll investigate thoroughly.”
In two other rooms, Tanner and Vera were being questioned. Tanner cried, blaming everything on Vera. When asked about Jason’s involvement, she vehemently denied it, insisting he knew nothing and that her words on the phone were meant to anger Sophia. She acted as if anyone could die, but her beloved lover absolutely couldn’t. Considering her actions, the two female Pack Enforcers questioning her wanted to spit on her.
Vera sat in the interrogation chair, her face fluctuating between red and white. She answered all the Pack Enforcer’s questions honestly. She’d never suffered such humiliation. She deeply regretted everything. She’d thought the Cooper Family’s daughter wouldn’t be bad, that Tanner would be a good daughter–in–law. Heaven knows that girl is more terrifying than a ghost. To do something so vicious and then shift the blame… Her wolf was agitated, its tone firm, “WE WILL NEVER LET THAT LITTLE BITCH ENTER THE WINTER FAMILY’S DOOR!”
