Chapter53.
“I’ve already called a ride.”
“Just cancel it.”

Liam got out of the car, smiling and without a word, grabbed my suitcase and put it in the trunk. If he wasn’t driving a luxury car, passersby would have thought I was being robbed. He opened the backseat door for me.“Come on, don’t be shy. It’s on the way.”
I was embarrassed by his enthusiasm–having an elder open the car door for me. Unable to refuse his kindness, I thanked him and got in.
The moment I got in, I saw Xander sitting on the other side. He wasn’t dressed formally today; a light blue shirt, black pants, black shoes, no tie, but his cufflinks glittered. Bathed in the soft blue light filtered through the car window, he exuded a refreshing, noble aura, making me think of an icy blue flower at the highest altitude… regal and distant.Just like how he would never transform into a wolf.
“Good morning.”
I greeted him, smoothing down my trench coat. We were far enough apart that we wouldn’t touch, but I still felt more comfortable if we were even further apart.
He nodded slightly. His expression was indifferent. Like a polite king responding to his enthusiastic subjects. Indeed, he was the alpha of the Pack and I was the subject.
I pursed my lips. Okay. Gentle and humble was his acting persona; cold and aloof was his true nature. But he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, so being aloof was normal. His character was still good.
The filter of him being my savior allowed me to accept his other flaws.
The car started again and drove off. I sat there, looking at my phone, canceling my ride–hailing app and paying a small cancellation fee. I also glanced at the driver’s phone number. It wasn’t the same number…
Just as I was thinking about it, the number called again. This time, I hung up without hesitation.
“Going on a trip?”
A low, clear voice came from beside me.
I instinctively turned, answering without thinking, “Yes.”
“Where to?”
“Iceland.”
Asking so specifically must be because the big boss was bored.
I thought Xander was just casually asking, and the conversation would end there, but he added, “So far.”
“Ah, yes, it’s really far.” I nodded in agreement.

My wolf only dares to quietly complain in my mind,“YOU, A WEALTHY YOUNG MASTER WHO STUDIED ABROAD SINCE CHILDHOOD, WHY ARE YOU TALKING LIKE YOU’VE NEVER SEEN THE WORLD?! SO INCONGRUOUS!”
“Was this trip planned long ago, or is it a spur–of–the–moment decision?” Xander asked casually, his tone even more amicable.
I readily replied, “It’s definitely been planned-”
I stopped abruptly, suddenly remembering my recent job application… A woman who has a long–planned trip applying for a job…
My expression turned awkward, hoping he wouldn’t remember.
But the big boss’s fading friendliness told me he remembered! No! He’d set a trap and waited for me to fall into it!
In this highly anxious moment, Zane Sullivan, sitting in the front passenger seat, poured gasoline on the fire.“So, Ms. Wells, have you given up on the job application?”
“!!What?”
I wanted to kneel. I explained nervously and a little aggrieved, “I was going to cancel my trip if I got the job, but Mr. Shaw rejected my application.”
That was my original plan. A relaxing trip was much needed, but if I got the chief secretary position, I would have adjusted my plans.
