Xander spoke, his posture relaxed, his expression serious.
My heart skipped a beat.“Do you mean… I
got the job?”
Now? When I’m about to leave for my trip?
Xander didn’t answer my question but let out an amused smile. “Aren’t you going on a trip?” It hadn’t started yet!!
“I can cancel the trip. I can start immediately.” I immediately sat up straighter. If I didn’t grab this opportunity, I’d be a fool.
“Immediately?”
“Immediately!” I was very sure of it.
“I just meant Iceland is too far.”
Xander’s smile widened. He exchanged a look with Zane, who immediately said, “Ms. Wells, it’s great that you can start today. After we get on the plane, I’ll tell you about the specific itinerary for this business trip.”
I felt a little dizzy. How did I end up getting a job by simply hitching a ride?
Although it was surreal, I quickly adapted.“Okay, there’s still some time before we get to the airport. Why don’t you send me the itinerary?”
Zane chuckled.“No need to rush.”
I nodded.
While we were talking, my phone, which I had muted, received several calls. I looked at it again and saw that Summer had also called me.
I turned sideways and called her back.“Summer.”
“Xander found out your flight information. He’s heading to the airport.” Summer shouted anxiously on the other end.

“That
guy is crazy now, Sophia. Turn around and come back, or find somewhere to hide.”
“Mm–hmm, let me think.” I put a hand to my forehead.
After hanging up, I looked out the window. My mood was suddenly pulled back into that damp, cold atmosphere, like the cold rain in late autumn, heartbroken and helpless. My wolf no longer had the strength to speak. I could feel the exhaustion deep within her soul through our mindlink. The car was quiet; everyone heard my conversation with Summer.

Jason didn’t find me at the airport, nor did he find my flight information. He thought I hadn’t boarded the plane and had changed my mind and left the airport. He didn’t know I had already boarded Xander’s private jet.
The cabin was spacious and comfortable. The temperature was perfect, with a clean fragrance. During takeoff, the momentary feeling of weightlessness was like cold hands grabbing my heart.
I approached the window, looking at the airport below, imagining Jason’s rage and fury, his veins bulging, looking like he was about to kill someone… I smiled happily, then lost myself in thought…
After the plane leveled off, the flight attendants served us a sumptuous breakfast. I had little appetite and only ate a little. Then, I stared out at the clouds, lost in thought.
“Sophia, if you continue to be this anxious, I think you don’t even need to go through the onboarding process.”
