Chapter8.
Jason pulled his arm away, looking at me. I sensed his nervous.
“Ms. Wells, do you play Go?” Tanner asked.
I saw a beautiful jade Go board, but they were playing Gomoku, and Jason had lost…
He wasn’t bad at comforting people, just not at comforting me.
I looked at Jason, a cold smile on my lips.“Yes, Ms. Cooper. Shall we play?”
Jason’s eyes flashed with annoyance.
Tanner confidently rearranged the stones. “Ms. Wells, white or green?”
I took the green stones. “Green. It suits me.”
Tanner and Vera were going to laugh at me of Jason’s betrayal. They had seen others being subtly insulted, but never had they seen someone insult themselves.A few seconds later, they realized that I was actually insulting others. Tanner gritted her teeth and quickly moved first.
Back and forth, the chess pieces fell one after another. Vera observed that Tanner was very organized, while I was placing pieces randomly, without any method. She was biased toward Tanner and didn’t pay close attention, instead mindlinking to Jason:“See? This is what a true young lady raised in a noble family looks like.”
Jason didn’t react at all.
Several pieces had already been placed on the board. Every time Tanner thought she was about to win, she was blocked, causing her emotions to rise and fall, growing a little restless. However, she couldn’t win, and I didn’t win either. At worst, it would end in a draw.
Hmph, drawing with her? That’s really beneath me.
“Your turn.”
Tanner had already placed three pieces in a hidden corner. As long as she could place one more, she would win for sure. She pretended to be calm and placed another piece, then nervously watched me, fearing I would block her again. But, seeing that I didn’t notice, the piece fell elsewhere.
Tanner, feeling triumphant, shouted, “I won!”
Vera immediately clapped in support.
But the next second, they saw my slender, jade–like fingers starting to collect the pieces one by one. It was only then that they realized my pieces had already formed a line of five.
Their faces turned pale.
