I couldn’t hear any surprise in his tone. I slowly opened my eyes and turned my head to look at Kaleb beside me. He sat in the corner of the sofa, one meter away from me. He was still wearing the casual sportswear he had on in the morning, with his short hair wet and his shoulders and clothes damp. He tilted his head back, leaning against the back of the sofa, with his feet and hands spread out in a bold and carefree manner, appearing as if he had had too much to drink.
I asked in a soft tone, “Did you drive yourself?”
Kaleb remained still and replied indifferently, “Couldn’t find a designated driver on a rainy day, so I took a ride–hailing car.”
No wonder he got wet; probably because he didn’t have an umbrella and ran in from outside the residential area. I spoke calmly, “Tonight, you didn’t plan on coming home, did you?”
“If I didn’t come back, would you sit here and wait all night?”
I was resolute.“Yes.”
Kaleb smiled faintly, took a deep breath, bent down, rested his elbows on his knees, and rubbed his eyes with his palms. “It’s getting light; let’s go back to the room and sleep.”
I lightly pinched the corner of my clothes, feeling unhappy in my heart. After pondering for a moment, I gathered up the courage to ask, “Did you visit Leyla in the hospital?”
Without a moment’s hesitation, Kaleb blurted out, “Hmm.”
My heart was pricked, and I instantly felt pain. I endured the pain and continued to ask, “Did you go to the hotel to book a room?”
Kaleb couldn’t help but chuckle softly, turning his head to look at me, speaking in a casual tone as if discussing the weather, “Do you also read entertainment news, Katrina?”
I dared not meet his gaze; I lowered my head and pretended to be calm and composed. “I didn’t see it; someone told me.”
“Did you mind?” His eyes slightly darkened.
I shook my head in denial.“Just asking casually.”
“Which media?” Kaleb leaned back on the couch again.“I will have the legal department sue them tomorrow.”
