Kaleb gently patted Terry’s shoulder and said, “Bro, rest early and contact me when you have time.”
Terry’s anger immediately subsided, and his tone softened a bit.“Okay, drive safely on your way, don’t worry about us, we’ll be fine.”
Kaleb nodded and followed me as we left. The moment the door closed, I could still hear Laci’s cursing, I stood at the door for a long, long time with red eyes. Terry remained silent as he listened to Laci scold him. Laci scolded for at least ten minutes; during that time, I couldn’t hear my brother’s voice. It wasn’t until Laci got tired and the scolding completely disappeared that the tears in her eyes continued to roll. It finally became calm inside. She slowly closed her eyes, and crystal–clear tears slid down from her eyelashes, like two transparent pearls, flowing over her fair face and dropping onto her chin. She was immersed in sadness, but never noticed Kaleb standing beside me. Kaleb watched me silently, waiting for me.
I took a deep breath and gently wiped the cold water droplets off my cheeks. Suddenly, a strong arm wrapped around me and pulled me into a sturdy and warm chest. My body stiffened, and I suddenly opened my eyes. In my line of sight were the colors of Kaleb’s clothes, and in every breath was the pleasant fragrance that belonged to a man. Although the hoodie wasn’t thin, his temperature was scorching and intense, tightly enveloping me. My heart was pounding like a deer, every cell in my body was trembling, my face was flushed, my ears were burning, and my whole body felt weak. A sad heart, troubled thoughts, all disappeared and vanished in this moment, leaving my mind completely blank, even forgetting how to react.
