I slightly opened my mouth to breathe; my eyes burned with heat, and my Adam’s apple moved. I lowered my head and picked up Katrina’s delicate and boneless white hand, gently wiping it. Her hands were very white and delicate, tender and soft. Her nails were pink and translucent, smooth and clean. In my rough and strong hands, they appeared even smaller and more delicate.
“It’s so hot; I need to drink water.” Katrina turned to the side and blindly reached for the bedside table, accidentally knocking over the water glass on the table.
I, with quick reflexes, swiftly picked up the spilled water cup, sighing lightly in frustration.“When you were drunk, you really didn’t put my mind at ease,” I said in an unusually gentle voice. I helped her up and fed her the remaining half cup
of water.
After drinking the water, Katrina finally calmed down, lay down, and continued sleeping. When I picked up her other hand to wipe it, I realized that she had just knocked over a water glass, and her long sleeves were completely soaked.
I threw the towel onto the bedside table, lowered my head in frustration, my breath becoming heavy, my voice hoarse. “Katrina, wake up and change your clothes before going back to sleep.”
Katrina slept drowsily. I lightly furrowed my brows, hesitated for a moment, and then got up to go to Katrina’s room to fetch a cotton pajama. I sat on the edge of Katrina’s bed and gently tapped her cheek. “Katrina, wake up.”
“Mhmm!” Katrina responded.
“Wake up and change your clothes before you go back to sleep,” I said. I have a cleanliness obsession and a touch of OCD, and couldn’t stand sleeping in wet clothes, even if it was Katrina.
Katrina changed her position and continued sleeping. I let out a soft sigh, my voice deepening slightly. “Did I help you change?”
“Um,” she mumbled in response. I had never seen Katrina’s body, even though she had been in a coma and hospitalized two years ago. The nursing staff took care of her in the hospital, including changing clothes and bathing.
