Annalise looked slightly surprised, “Ah? Is this Kaleb’s water? I thought it was the one I just put here; I drank it by mistake.” She innocently put down the water bottle and then revealed a carefree smile, casually saying, “Actually, it’s nothing. We often drink from the same cup, and from childhood to now, we’ve always been used to not distinguishing between you and me.”
Giana opened her mouth to breathe, and coldly laughed, “Hehe!”
Annalise looked at me, with a feigned innocence in her eyes, as pure as a kindergarten child.“Katrina, you wouldn’t mind, would you?”
My expression froze; my heart felt sour and bitter, and I didn’t know what to say. Would I mind? Married for two years, I, as a wife, had never used Kaleb’s cup, let alone dared to drink from the same glass as him. I didn’t even have the qualification to be jealous, so what qualification did I have to say I minded? Kaleb was much better than me in comparison to this childhood friend, female secretary. If I minded, Kaleb, on the other hand, didn’t care about these trivial intimate actions with Annalise. Wouldn’t I just become the clown of a one–man show?
I pointed at the box in the corner and said, “There is water over there, you can drink the new ones.”
“I have already drunk it; I am not thirsty.” Annalise was particularly proud, seemingly satisfied with achieving some kind of intention. She turned around and went back to her male colleague, placing one hand on his shoulder, “Is there anything else I can help with?”
The male colleague frowned and slowly pushed her hand away, as if he had already realized some serious issue. “No need, I can handle it myself.”
“Anyway, I had nothing to do, so I helped you,” Annalise said enthusiastically, and my male colleague couldn’t
resist.
I looked at the mineral water on the table, my fist slightly clenched. There was an impulse to throw it away. The sour vinegar taste made me feel like I had almost transformed into a completely unrecognizable person due to my jealousy. I took a deep breath and endured it. Glancing over at Annalise again, she was as intimate with the man she had just met as she had been with Kaleb, whom she had known for over twenty years: How close did the intimacy level reach?
Giana couldn’t bear it anymore. She walked up to me with her hands on her hips and asked, weakly and with frustration, “Can I drive her away? She’s really annoying and bothersome.”
