Obviously, Kaleb didn’t expect me to sleep until noon, so he only prepared breakfast for me. I wasn’t picky about food. I ate the egg sandwich and boiled broccoli on the table, and washed the bowl clean. I took out two oranges from the refrigerator, put them in my backpack, and then left.
I returned to the Drug Development Institute, and it was already past one o’clock in the afternoon. Giana and the other employees were all on their lunch break. I entered the office and woke up Giana, who was taking a nap.
Giana got up from the recliner and sleepily looked at me, “Katrina, why didn’t you come this morning? What happened?”
“I drank too much last night and didn’t wake up until noon.” I put down my backpack and took out two oranges from it. I placed one on the table and threw the other one to Giana.
Giana caught the orange and stood up from the lounge chair, rubbing the orange as she walked towards me. “How did the business talk go?”
I had a radiant smile on my face as I said, “Verve Biomedical Corp has gained recognition in front of the leaders of many major hospitals. Although we didn’t close any deals, we have had many opportunities.”
Giana looked puzzled and walked over to my desk, leaning against it.“I didn’t understand.”
I looked up at her and said, “It was our chance for our medicine to enter the hospital and compete with other pharmaceutical companies, without needing any backdoor deals, solely relying on our capabilities.”
Giana, with sharp eyes, noticed the red mark on my neck. She furrowed her brows and approached, gently touching my neck with her fingertips. “Did you get bitten by a mosquito and have a big bump?”
I slightly stiffened, and my mind was also filled with confusion.
“No swelling either!” Giana touched it, “Does it itch?”
“Not itchy; I saw it when I took a shower in the morning. I was quite surprised how it turned red.”
Giana suddenly covered her mouth and stared at me with wide eyes.
I was startled by her exaggerated expression, “What’s wrong?”
