I walked directly toward Kaleb’s car. Through the window, I saw that Annalise had already sat in the passenger seat. I walked to the trunk, put the suitcase in, and closed the door. Then, I came to the back door of the car. Just after I pulled it open, Hana glanced at me with a cold face, impatiently saying, “Take another side.”
I didn’t argue with her. I closed the door, went around from the back, opened the other door of the car, and After fastening my seatbelt, I silently gazed at the scenery outside the window.

Kaleb started the car and drove away. The wind blew, and the verdant countryside scenery passed before my eyes. The evening glow stained half of the sky red. The scenery was beautiful, but my mood was gloomy and damp. “Let’s play some music.” Annalise operated the car’s system with ease as if it was her own car. Her tone was cheerful as she asked, “Hana, what song do you wanna listen to?”
Hana showed a big smile, and her body started to sway a bit as she replied, “Let’s have some DJ music and get the party started!”
“Okay.” Annalise picked a very popular DJ and played it. The catchy rock music sounded in the car. Hana and Annalise sang along, occasionally swaying their bodies along the melody with passion and excitement. But I only felt it was noisy. The buzzing noise made me have a headache. I felt as if my eardrums were about to burst, even my heart began to beat slightly irregularly.
I leaned my head against the window and closed my eyes. At this time, Kaleb reached out and pressed a button. The next second, the entire space fell silent.
Annalise stared at Kaleb’s cold side face in astonishment. Hana leaned forward and looked at Kaleb, who was focused on driving. She pouted and complained, “Kaleb, why did you turn off our music?”
Annalise glanced at me, who had my eyes closed. Then, she pretended to be considerate and said, “Hana, Kaleb doesn’t like loud music. He’s driving.”
But Hana was still complaining, “But this journey will take us about four hours! It’ll be so boring. Listening to some music can make us feel the time passes faster.”
Annalise acted like Hana’s elder, standing on the same side as Kaleb, and gently touched Hana’s head, comforting her, “Come on, Hana. You’ll be fine without music for a few hours. Let Kaleb drive properly, okay?”
