Chapter 29
Hana snorted angrily, sat back in her seat, and turned her head to look out the window. Annalise smiled while glancing coldly at me through the corners of her eyes. After sitting up straight, Annalise looked ahead and found a topic to chat with Kaleb. She asked, “Kaleb, I remember there’s a new product launch tonight. Can you make it in time?”
Kaleb responded calmly, “Yes.”
“I also wanna go to have a look. Can you take me with you?”
“Okay.”
Annalise blushed a little and smiled shyly, “That’s such a grand occasion. Should I wear a formal dress?” “Up to you.” Kaleb’s tone was indifferent.
In the following conversation, Kaleb would respond to some of Annalise’s words. On the other hand, I felt that these four hours were extremely long for me.
When we entered the city, it was already dark outside. The southern part of the city was enveloped by dazzling neon lights, looking particularly bustling. Back at the entrance of the residential area, I was the first one to get out of the car. I slowly closed the car door in low spirits. I didn’t say a word of farewell and even forgot to take my suitcase from the trunk. I just clumped into the residential area slowly. When the security guard at the gate greeted me, I managed to force a smile and nodded to greet him back. Then, I took a long breath and looked up at the towering apartment building.
Seeing lights shining in almost every household, I thought, “I’m living in such a luxurious apartment. Every family here must have been very happy, right? Then why did my days here turn out like this?*
Kaleb’s car outside the residential area remained stationary for a long time. Kaleb looked out of the car window until my figure disappeared from his sight. Annalise looked at Kaleb’s desolate side face, tightly clenching her teeth.
Hana had grown impatient and asked, “Kaleb, what are you looking at? Let’s go! Take me home!” Annalise smiled and echoed, “Let’s go. Don’t you have a new product launch later?”
Kaleb took back his gaze and turned the steering wheel, slowly driving away.
I entered the apartment, turned on the lights, changed into slippers, and placed my shoes in the cabinet.
