Chapter 59

Kaleb explained calmly, “The medicine you are working on is meant to cure and save people, but businessmen only provide financial support for your dream when it’s profitable.”
I sighed helplessly, “You still think it doesn’t make money,”
Kaleb was resolute.“Yes.”
“What if I have developed two drugs for rare diseases?” I asked in response.
Kaleb smiled ambiguously, “Can I have the power to set the price?”
I froze.
Kaleb asked again, “Do you agree to sell a single dose of the miracle drug for 150,000 dollars?”
I took a deep breath and shook my head. Kaleb seemed to have seen through my kindness. I was a great pharmaceutical scientist but definitely not a good businessperson. I was skilled at pharmaceuticals and saving lives, but I was definitely not good at doing business. This was also why I was unwilling to join large corporations and collude with capitalists.
Kaleb returned the documents to me and suggested, “The country likes selfless researchers like you the most. You should receive national funding and develop effective drugs that can be sold in the national medical system so that ordinary people can afford them.”
I muttered softly, “The government’s support for small pharmaceutical companies like us is limited, and it simply cannot sustain the enormous research funding.”
Kaleb ignored me and got up to return to his room. I hurriedly stood up and blurted out, “Mr. Barton, please reconsider.”
Kaleb stopped with his back against me. The way I addressed him was enough to indicate my identity and position, and for this reason, it had been the evening when I had talked the most with Kaleb in the past two years.
