Chapter 64
“Is the contract in your hand for Mr. Barton?”
Reilly replied, “Yes.”
“What contract? Is it related to that woman?”
Reilly said seriously, “This is a trade secret. Ms. Perez, if you want to know, you can go and ask Mr. Barton.” “I’m Mr. Barton’s best friend, and there are no secrets between us,” Annalise said angrily. She snatched the contract from Reilly’s hand and turned her back to him, quickly flipping through it. Reilly panicked and hurriedly went to snatch it. As a man, however, he had to watch how he treated Annalise, a woman. The more Annalise tried to avoid him, the more he couldn’t grab the contract: “Ms. Perez, please return the contract to me. You are in the Barton Group, not your garden. Don’t be too unreasonable.”
Annalise sneered and returned the contract to Reilly, saying, “I don’t think it’s a big deal. A trade secret? It’s just an ordinary investment contract.”
Reilly was so angry that his face turned gloomy. He walked toward Kaleb’s office with the contract in his hand. Annalise stepped into the elevator. As the door slowly closed, her eyes, which had been full of anger and scorn, grew sinister and chilling.
Kaleb’s office was spacious and grand. I sat across from Kaleb at his desk, flipping through the contract brought in by Reilly. After a moment, I placed the contract on the desk and sat up straight, looking into Kaleb’s eyes. Kaleb handed me a pen, but I didn’t take it.
“Aren’t you coming over to sign the contract?”
I calmly spoke, “Mr. Barton, I am well aware that my company is not worth this price. The conditions you have offered are very tempting, and any businessman would not hesitate to sign this contract. However, my bottom line is to get an absolute controlling right, and I will not make any concessions.”
Kaleb raised an eyebrow and put on a half–smile. He put down the pen.“Do you think I would agree to a mere 49% controlling stake?”
My eyes were determined, and my voice was gentle yet powerful. I said, “I don’t think so.”
