Chapter 67
Kaleb looked worried and explained, “She went to the company rooftop to live stream. Workers were there, and she stepped on a nail. Her foot bled a lot.”
Diego asked, confused, “Then why does she need a brain MRI
Kaleb explained, “When I got the call and went to the rooftop, she had fainted. After that, I took her to the hospital for tests. She didn’t lose much blood, wasn’t in shock, and didn’t have a head injury. Her wound stopped bleeding, and she received a tetanus shot. But she’s still in a coma and can’t be woken up.”
Patricia asked worriedly, “What did the doctor say?”
“The doctor can’t figure it out and is conducting a full examination,” Kaleb said calmly but with a hint of exasperation. “I think she’s pretending to be in a coma, so I called you. Sorry, I need to get back to the company.”
Diego got angry and grabbed Kaleb’s collar. “My daughter is seriously injured and in a coma, and you think she’s pretending? You grew up together since childhood. How can you say such shameful words? So are you just going to leave her behind now?”
Kaleb held Diego’s wrist and gently pushed him away. “Mr. Perez, I know her well. It’s precisely because I care about her like a brother that I’m involved. Otherwise, I could have easily ignored it.”
Kaleb looked at Patricia. “Mrs. Perez, I’m leaving now. Tell her at her bedside that I’ve left and she doesn’t need to pretend anymore, and then she’ll wake up.”
Patricia knew Annalise very well and awkwardly nodded without saying much.
Kaleb left the hospital quickly and drove back to the company. When he got to his office, I wasn’t there. He went to the assistant’s room, breathing heavily, “Where’s Katrina?”
Reilly stood up nervously.“Mr. Barton, I was busy and didn’t notice.”
Kaleb turned around and dialed my phone. The voice system said, “The number you dialed is turned off…”
The next day. I had been sleeping since last night, staying in my room all night. I got up at six in the morning, washed up, and left my room. There were two new contracts on the living room coffee table. I picked them up to look closely. Kaleb modified the new contract based on my proposal. Most details benefited me. I put the contract in my backpack to show Giana at the company.
