Given their business connections, the Blanchels agreed to Louis’s request and left for the reception hall.
Now alone, Louis couldn’t hold back any more. He stepped forward and whispered her name.
“Cersei…” His voice broke with emotion and his eyes filled with complicated feelings and unmistakable pain.
But Cersei showed no reaction. She just nodded calmly.
“What is it? Hurry up, I need to get to my engagement party. Today’s important.”
Her voice once overflowed with love, but now Louis couldn’t detect a trace of it.
He panicked and looked at her pleadingly.
“Cersei, I’m sorry. I messed up. I ignored you for Rachel’s sake, I shouldn’t have hurt you. Can you forgive me?”
Cersei remained indifferent–neither angry nor happy.
Since their last confrontation when everything came out, she’d made peace with it all. She gave a slight nod.
“Fine. I don’t care anymore. The time’s almost up. I need to go.”
Louis’s heart sank like a stone. His face turned pale.
“You’re still mad at me, aren’t you? I truly realize my mistakes. I came back to apologize, but also to ask for another chance. I thought I loved Rachel, but in these last three years, I’ve fallen for you. Cersei, please. Give me one more chance.”
His eyes welled up with tears as he begged, looking utterly pitiful.
This was the first time Cersei had ever seen Louis like this, but it was too late.
She didn’t love him anymore. Why couldn’t he understand?
Cersei didn’t answer. She just looked at him, her calm eyes showing no love, not even hatred.
Louis felt like his heart was being squeezed. He moved closer to the woman he loved.
“I know I messed up. Cersei, believe me, I’ll never hurt you again. I’ll make it up to you. I’ll love you properly…”
Louis dropped to his knees and pulled Cersei into his arms.
This once–proud man was now kneeling, begging everything to win back the woman he loved. His embrace was full of regret and pain.
But Cersei didn’t need it anymore.
With a deep sigh, her voice was as flat as ever.
“Louis, today is my engagement party.”
Her body once warm in his memory, now felt like it was cutting him to the bone.
But Louis refused to let go. His voice broke into sobs, hot tears dampening the hem of her elegant dress.
“Cersei, don’t go… please don’t go…”
His voice was pure desperation as he clung to her.
Just as Cersei was about to lose patience, the door opened. And someone yanked Louis away, forcing him a few steps back.

Chapter 21
Louis was about to lash out when he heard Cersei’s surprised voice.
“Harvey! What are you doing here?”
“Worried you’d be stuck talking to your ex for too long and miss the time. Came to check on you.”
Though Harvey’s words were polite, his tone was ice cold toward Louis.
This was the first time Cersei had seen her brother angry, but she was relieved.
Thank goodness Harvey had arrived. Otherwise, she wasn’t sure how long she’d have to deal with Louis’s desperate pleas.
She didn’t want to miss her engagement party because of him.
Seeing the formerly cold Cersei break into a relieved smile for another man drove Louis crazy with jealousy. These reactions used to be only for him!
He held his emotions in check and spoke calmly.
“Look, I know you’re adopted by the Blanchel. If you marry your sister, you’ll face endless criticism. Plus, Cersei has always loved me–she’s just angry right now.”
“I’ll give you half of all my assets. That kind of money would set you up for life. If you’re smart, you’ll hand Cersei over to me.”
The Moore fortune was comparable to the Blanchels‘–an offer most people would jump at.
But Harvey didn’t even flinch. He just laughed scornfully.
“You think everyone’s like Rachel, only caring about money and status?”
“Let me tell you something, Louis. Our parents know about Cersei and me, and they’ve given their blessing. I won’t take over the Blanchel fortune–I’ll build my own business and make Cersei happy. I love her more than any amount of money.”
“Besides, I’ve loved her since long ago. Thanks to you, I finally have the chance to be with her.”
Louis’s face twisted with anger. But Harvey wasn’t done.
