Chapter 4
The argument at the table raged on, with everyone’s faces flushed in anger. But Cersei remained
silent.
Sitting upright in her chair, she watched as Louis lost his composure arguing with his parents. Her chest felt tight, as if something heavy was pressing against it.
Just as she stood to leave, Philip was in a fit of rage and flipped the dinner table.
“What nonsense are you talking? The Moore family has maintained its lineage for nine generations! What do you mean you’ll never have children?”
The dishes and food flew through the air. Louis instinctively shielded Rachel as they dodged away.
Cersei didn’t react in time, and the flying plates and hot soup hit her full force.
“Ah!” she cried out.
The scalding liquid splashed across her arm, instantly turning her skin angry red and raising blisters. Porcelain fragments struck her. Blood seeped out, quickly staining her clothes.
She let out a muffled groan and fell heavily to the floor, her body feeling like it was falling apart. Every inch of her skin burned and tingled with pain and the pain teared at her nerves.
She forced her eyes opened, only to saw Louis protect Rachel as they left without even a backward glance.
The scene in front of her grew blurry and she felt herself being pulled into the darkness.
When she finally regained consciousness, Cersei found herself in a hospital bed.
Rachel was dozing off in a chair beside her, with Louis standing behind her, his expression cold and
distant.
He took off his jacket and draped it over her shoulders. As he reached up to touch Rachel’s face, their eyes met.
His movement froze mid–air. After a moment’s hesitation, he withdrew his hand without saying a

word and turned to get the doctor.
As he left, Cersei tried to extract her numb hand from under Rachel’s head. She accidentally woke
Rachel.
Rachel opened her eyes groggily, her voice still heavy with sleep. “Cersei, are you okay? How are you feeling?”
“I’m fine,” Looking at the bandages on her body, Cersei shook her head.
Rachel finally relaxed, pouring a glass of water and handing it to her.
“Thank God. You scared the crap out of me yesterday. Not only did you get burned, but you had a severe allergic reaction. I’m kicking myself for not stopping you from eating that fish. You knew you were allergic to it! Why didn’t you just tell Louis?”
As Rachel was quietly scolding her, Louis returned with the doctor.
Hearing about Cersei’s fish allergy, his expression froze for a moment, and his gaze was complicated.
“I wasn’t trying to be tough,” Cersei explained. “There were just so many rules at the family dinner, and with all the elders watching… I didn’t want to make a scene, so I ate the fish.”
Rachel sighed, squeezing her hand. “I know you hate those stuffy gatherings. But hey, good news–Louis promised me that except for Christmas, we don’t have to attend any more family dinners.”
“You won’t have to be so careful, and I won’t be pressured to get married anymore!”
Recalling the chaos before she passed out, Cersei wasn’t surprised by this news.
To prevent Rachel from getting married, Louis had even clashed with the whole family. It proof that his love for her had reached the point of recklessness.
Cersei knew that with the way he was protecting Rachel, he was bound to reveal the truth about his. feelings sooner or later.
And when that happened, it would definitely stir up a storm.
She wanted no part in it. She just wanted to step away, to leave it all behind and never look back.

Cersei remained silent. Rachel was about to say something else, but her phone suddenly rang
Seeing “Dad” flash across the screen, her expression instaruly froze. She shot Louis a panicked look
for help.
His brow furrowed with worry as he took her phone and strode out of the hospital room.
Rachel could tell by his face that something was wrong, then hurried after him.
The room fell quiet again, leaving only the doctor to complete his examination of Cersei.
“It seems like there’s nothing serious. But to be on the safe side, you should go upstairs for a full–body check–up.”
Cersei took the paperwork and headed for her follow–up alone.
Seeing all the elevators stuck on the top floor and not wanting to wait, she decided to take the stairs.
But just as she reached the stairwell, she heard familiar voices.
“Listen to me, Rachel. “I don’t give a fuck what they think about us being together. I just want to keep you by my side forever! I’d gladly give up my entire fucking inheritance if it means being with
you!”
“But what about Cersei? “She’s your wife now, Louis! And my best friend! I can’t do this to her!”
Rachel’s face was streaked with tears as she looked up at him.
He gripped her hand tightly, his eyes red–rimmed and desperate. “If you were so worried about hurting her, why the hell did you push me to marry her? You knew I didn’t love her. I’ve always loved you…”
His voice cracked with years of pent–up longing as he abandoned all restraint and leaned down to kiss her.
Rachel accepted his kiss, losing herself in the moment.
She could barely breathe and finally choked out a whisper. “Louis.”
Just as she was recovering, she glanced up and caught sight of a figure in the doorway.
