Chapter 3
Hannah meant to refuse, but remembering their agreement to fulfill marital obligations–and considering they weren’t officially divorced yet–she reluctantly nodded,
“Tine, go ahead.”
Kaden lowered himself to kiss her lips, more forcefully than usual
Hannah couldn’t help but whimper, her fingers clutching the sheets.
Kaden smiled–a rare sight. His voice dropped to a husky whisper: “Too much? I’ll be gentler.”
Hannah closed her eyes. “Thank you,” she murmured.
“My pleasure,” Kaden replied with amusement in his voice, before deepening the kiss.
When Hannah woke the next morning, the room was empty.
After showering and dressing, she went downstairs to find Kaden already gone. In the dining room, only Phoebe sat eating breakfast, head down.
Hannah approached the table with her usual politeness. “Did you sleep well? Is the breakfast to your
liking?”
Phoebe didn’t answer or even look up, acting as if Hannah were invisible.
Hannah sighed softly, thinking how much ruder Phoebe was compared to her brother.
She sat down quietly and began eating. But after just one bite of toast, a wave of nausea hit her
stomach.
She jumped up and rushed to the bathroom, hunching over the sink as she dry–heaved.
When she emerged, Phoebe was standing at the door, her expression terrifyingly dark.
Her gaze cut into Hannah like a knife. “Are you pregnant?” she demanded, voice ice–cold.
Hannah froze, about to explain, but Phoebe was already losing control.
Chapter 3
“I’ve tolerated your marriage. I’ve even tolerated you sleeping with him. But I will NEVER allow you to have his child!” Her voice turned shrill with rage.
She spun toward the security guards at the door. “Hold her down!” Then to the housekeeper: “Bring abortion pills! Now!”
The staff exchanged uncertain glances, nobody daring to move.
Phoebe’s eyes reddened with fury. “Didn’t my brother order you to serve me well before he left? Is this how you follow instructions? By ignoring my commands?”
The security personnel exchanged uncomfortable looks but eventually yielded, moving forward to
restrain Hannah.
Hannah struggled against their grip. “You’ve misunderstood–I’m not pregnant! My stomach is just upset-”
But Phoebe was beyond reason. Seeing the housekeeper hadn’t returned, she stormed to a bedroom, rummaged through a medicine cabinet, and returned with a bottle of pills.
“Stop lying!” She was completely unhinged now. “I won’t let you have this baby. I won’t!”
With manic determination, she gripped Hannah’s jaw, forcing her mouth open, and shoved pills down her throat.
Hannah desperately shook her head, but the pills slid down her esophagus.
Almost immediately, her stomach churned violently. The pain was so intense she could barely stand.
Cold sweat trickled down her forehead as her vision darkened. She tried to call out but couldn’t make a sound. Finally, she collapsed to the floor as consciousness slipped away.
When Hannah next awoke, she was in a hospital bed.
Through her foggy consciousness, she heard a doctor speaking with exasperation.
“Mr. Humphrey, your wife wasn’t pregnant. How could you let someone give her abortion medication? We pumped her stomach just in time–otherwise, we would’ve had to remove half of it.”
