“Why didn’t you kill me? Are you reluctant?”
Ethan gasped for fresh air, his voice sounding as if it had been sanded.
“Do you hate me that much? Enough to want me dead?”
He touched the marks on his neck, his eyes full of hurt.
“Yes! I hate you! I wish you were dead!”
“You humiliated me, forced me,
How could I not hate you?!”
threatened my family, and now you’re imprisoning me.
“What did I ever do wrong to deserve this from you?!”
My angry fists continued to pound his body.
I wanted to vent a lifetime of hatred all at once.

Ethan sat there, stunned by my words, allowing me to hit and curse him.
When I finally quieted down, he extended his arms and embraced me tightly,
His tone was filled with caution and affection.
“I’m sorry, baby… I didn’t know I caused you so much pain. I just wanted you to notice me, not to only have eyes for Riley…”
He kept trying to justify himself yet seemed unable to convince even himself, grabbing his hair in self–loathing.
“I was a fucking bastard before. I deserve to die! I’ll treat you well from now on, make it up to you double, okay?”
“Let’s be good together, give our child a complete home. Stay with me, please…”
I knew that belated devotion was cheaper than grass, so why did those uncooperative tears

After our fight, Ethan seemed to become a different person.
He personally removed the iron chain from my ankle and no longer restricted my
movements.
He became attentive to every aspect of my life.
But I knew this was just visible restraints turning into invisible surveillance.
The chain that trapped me still existed.
I began creating trouble in various ways, constantly challenging his limits, wanting to see
how long he could keep up the act.
The housekeeper mentioned I loved the pumpkin soup from the south side of town.
He woke up especially early to line up and buy it, only for me to pour the entire bowl into
the toilet.
The high–end custom–made dress he gave me, I cut to shreds.

During sleepless pregnancy nights, I kicked him to the floor, ordering him to stay awake with me until dawn.
Every time I thought he would explode in anger, he would only smile faintly and say:
“As long as you’re happy.”
Except for one time, when he shed his gentle disguise…
After regaining my freedom, began meeting with Riley frequently.
Angering Ethan was just one aspect.
More importantly, I wanted to use his help to leave.

Riley had planted his own people among the bodyguards and arranged a fake identity for

We made thorough preparations, just waiting for the day of departure.
The night before escaping, I clung to Ethan for a long time, with a passion that left him
overwhelmed.
Considering the safety of the child, he restrained himself.
Afterward, I personally heated a cup of milk for him, watching him drink it all.
Looking at the sleeping man before me, the corners of my mouth lifted in a relieved smile.
It was finally ending–all these years of entanglement between us.
Security check, customs–everything went more smoothly than I could have imagined.
Just as I was celebrating my final freedom…
