After arriving at the hospital, he carried me, rushing frantically toward the blood donation
room.
With every jolt, my frail body could no longer withstand the strain.
Before we even reached the door, I vomited a mouthful of blood.
Elon gently wiped the blood from the corner of my mouth.
But then, he turned and pinned me down, signaling the doctor to hurry up and prepare for the blood draw.
The cold needle pierced my body, and I instinctively gripped the sleeve of Elon’s shirt.
The excruciating pain in my heart made it impossible for me to utter a sound.
As my consciousness blurred, I heard the doctor’s worried voice:
“Mr. Gray, given the situation, we can’t draw too much blood. If we continue like this, she
will die!”
Elon’s gaze was cold as he looked at me./
“Stop talking. Draw as much blood as Eva needs!”
“If it’s not enough, bring the child here. No matter what it costs, I won’t allow Eva to be in danger!”
My blood seemed to freeze.
In his heart, both my life and my child’s didn’t even compare to Eva’s importance.
I managed to force a bitter smile and let myself fall unconscious.
When I opened my eyes again, I had been transferred to a regular ward.
Elon sat by the bed, his eyes red and filled with worry.

When he saw me awake, he couldn’t hold back his tears.
“Natalie, the doctor said you lost too much blood and fell into a coma.”
“Thank goodness you’re alright. I almost thought you wouldn’t wake up again!”
He enveloped me in his arms, crying with such sincerity.
But all I felt was disgust.
It was him who had disregarded my life, so why was he pretending to be so loving in front
of me?
I pushed him away silently, forcing a faint smile.
“I’m fine. You don’t need to worry about me. Our son is alone at home, and I’m worried.
You should go take care of him.”
Elon’s expression darkened with a hint of sorrow.
I didn’t pay much attention, thinking he felt guilty about our son.
But the next second, he suddenly spoke up:
“Natalie, given the condition the child’s in, the doctors say he’s unlikely to recover. We don’t even know if he’ll survive long enough to grow up.”
“Should we start planning? Let’s adopt a healthy child as soon as possible.”
I looked at him, unable to believe what I was hearing.
Elon didn’t notice the change in my expression, holding my hand and kissing it.
“Natalie, ever since little one’s accident, you’ve been so sad, and it breaks my heart. Instead of enduring this, why don’t we just adopt a healthy child?”
The words I wanted to say were right on the tip of my tongue, but I swallowed them all.
After a long silence, I finally spoke cautiously:

“Elon, I don’t want to raise someone else’s child. How about we have another one ourselves
in the future?”
His expression instantly darkened, and he pushed me away forcefully.
“What are you talking about!”
Realizing he had lost his temper, he softened his voice, but his eyes betrayed his unease.
“Natalie, your body isn’t fit to have another child. I can’t bear to see you suffer.”
“Benny Gray’s situation will require care in the future, and today the doctor said that the
person who received your blood is looking to adopt their child out. That’s why I…”
“Don’t worry. Benny is my only biological child. Everything I’ve done, I’ve done for him.”
My heart felt as though it were being tightly squeezed, aching with pain.
He had taken everything from our son, not even/sparing him an ounce of love.
Yet, he kept insisting he was doing this all for the child.
After all this time, he must have deceived even himself.
When I spoke again, I had regained my calm.
“Alright, I understand. You can arrange it.”
Elon was overjoyed, his tears flowing as he leaned down to kiss my forehead.
I suppressed the blood rising in my throat and smiled calmly.
But in truth, my heart had already shattered into pieces.
Unable to contain his excitement, he quickly made an excuse to consult with the doctor
about my follow–up treatment and left the room without a second glance.
I pretended not to see Eva, who was standing outside the door, looking at me with a provocative gaze.

With trembling hands, I picked up the phone Elon had left beside my bed.
We had been married for eight years, and I had never checked his phone.
The password was set to my birthday.
But the wallpaper was no longer a photo of the two of us in our wedding attire.
Instead, it was a picture of him, Eva, and their child.
