Chapter 9
Mr. Gray accepted the silver baby rattle, smiling from ear to ear.
“Good, good, our little Claire is so thoughtful.”
“Claire, if you find a suitable young man, you can bring him home for me and your brother
to meet.”
“Your brother doesn’t need my worry anymore, but you’re still unsettled.”
“Before I die, I must at least see you married with children. Otherwise, I’d be failing your
parents even in the afterlife.”
For some reason, Jackson’s face flashed through Claire’s mind.
Claire’s earlobes warmed slightly, and she unobtrusively held Mr. Gray’s hand:
“Uncle Gray, don’t talk like that on such a happy occasion.”
“If I really find a boyfriend, I’ll definitely bring him back to meet you.”
Mr. Gray quickly patted his mouth:
“It’s me being muddle–headed and saying the wrong thing.”
“Your brother says your sister–in–law is your best friend, no wonder I liked her at first
sight–she’s a good girl!”
“When your brother was sick last time, she stayed by his bedside taking care of him without.
leaving. Last month when she gave birth, your brother almost cried waiting outside the
operating room.”
“Seeing them so in love makes me happy!”
Listening to Mr. Gray go on about Zane and Emma’s loving moments, even though Claire had decided to let go, her heart still felt like it was being pricked with needles.
But her pain wasn’t because of Zane. She just felt unworthy–of herself.

Chapter 9
She had loved Zane for 10 years, but it took only two days to let him go completely.
She didn’t know whether to feel happy or pathetic.
She no longer wanted to stay there and was just about to make an excuse to leave when Zane and Emnía suddenly returned.
Emma was holding the baby, and the handprint on her face had almost disappeared.
Zane coldly glanced at Claire, briefly greeted his father, and then took Emma upstairs.
Mr. Gray shouted angrily at the stairs:
“Zane Gray, is that how you treat your sister who’s rarely home? Claire even specially bought a silver baby rattle for your daughter.”
After shouting, he frowned puzzledly.
“What’s wrong with your brother today? Weren’t you two closest before?”
Hearing Mr. Gray’s words, Claire thought of the past.
Back then, Claire was still in high school while Zane was already in college.
Claire hadn’t yet introduced Emma to Zane, and his eyes had only Claire,
Knowing Claire got out of school late, Zane would always make sure she got home safely before returning to his own school.
For this, he had been caught by the dorm supervisor several times while climbing over the wall, once nearly receiving a school–wide disciplinary notice.
Although the Gray family wasn’t short on money, Mr. Gray strictly controlled Zane’s allowance to prevent him from developing lavish habits.
But to give Claire a diamond necklace, he had eaten nothing but ramen noodles for half a
year.
After Claire started college, Zane used his first pot of gold to buy her a small apartment near her university, just for her.

He told Claire then:
“Claire, in my heart, you’re more important than anything.”
Claire didn’t doubt the sincerity of Zane’s words at that time.
But she also clearly realized that the current Zane was no longer that passionate young
man.
They had ultimately taken different paths.
