Seeing Claire looking a bit unhappy, Mr. Gray suggested taking her to see the baby.
Unable to refuse Mr. Gray’s enthusiasm, and worried he might notice something, Claire reluctantly followed him upstairs.
Entering the nursery, Zane and Emma were playing with the baby.
Seeing Claire arrive, Zane immediately put away his smile.
Emma, on the other hand, acted as if nothing had happened, warmly greeting Mr. Gray and Claire.
Mr. Gray pulled Claire to the stroller, happily saying:
“Claire, come see your brother’s child. Isn’t she adorable?”
He took the silver baby rattle from his pocket and placed it in the baby’s hand:
“Sweetheart, this is a gift from your aunt. Do you like it?”
But unexpectedly, Zane snatched it back from the child’s hand and threw it at Claire.
He looked at Claire warily, as if she had given not a gift but deadly poison.
Zane’s instinctive reaction cut Claire’s heart to pieces again.

Claire laughed self–mockingly: “Looks like my brother doesn’t like my gift.”
Seeing Zane like this, Mr. Gray was so angry he hit Zane with his cane.
“You ungrateful wretch, did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed today? Claire kindly gives your daughter a gift, and this is how you treat her? Are you even acting like her brother anymore?”
Emma quickly mediated: “Dad, please calm down. Zane didn’t mean it.”
“The baby put something dirty in her mouth a few days ago and had diarrhea for two days.

Zane is just worried about the baby.”
“Claire, I’m really sorry. Don’t be angry with your brother.”
“By the way, you don’t know the baby’s name yet, do you? She’s called Lily–Zane named her himself!”
“I thought the name was too simple, but Zane insisted Lily would be his only treasure forever. Oy, I’m not even married yet, and my husband is already being stolen by our daughter.”

Claire suddenly felt how ironic it all was.
