Chapter 9
When my parents found out, they were mortified.
They immediately scheduled an abortion.
But no one could have anticipated what happened next.
Just as I was being wheeled into the operating room, dozens of luxury cars suddenly pulled up to the hospital.
Leading them was a Hummer with diplomatic plates.
Countless black–suited bodyguards jumped out, surrounding the small building where I was.
With a murderous expression, Evan kicked open the operating room door, gun in hand.
The doctor, who had been preparing the anesthesia, dropped the syringe in terror.
I sat up in shock, but Evan had already reached my bedside and scooped me into his arms.
No one dared to stop him.
Two rows of armed bodyguards stood outside the door.
My parents were so frightened they could barely stand.

My dad clammed up, shoving mom forward with a jerk of his elbow to respond.

“Yes, we–we were thinking of Clara’s best interests. She’s so young, and an unwed pregnancy would damage her reputation…”

Evan dropped his gaze to mine, but I was still reeling from the sudden crash of it all-
my mind gone numb, eyes staring blankly like they’d forgotten how to focus.
Just… floating, adrift in the wreckage of whatever the hell had just happened.
“All these years, I found just one person I cared about, and the Ward family has abused her over and over.”
Evan’s tone was casual, his voice soft, but it sent chills down everyone’s spine.
“This–this gentleman, Clara is our daughter. How could we possibly abuse her…”

“Whether you abused her or not, I know perfectly well.”
Still holding me, Evan took a slow step forward.
My parents huddled together, pressed against the wall with nowhere to retreat.
They were genuinely terrified by this display of force.
After all, each of Evan’s bodyguards was armed with a gun.
And they clearly weren’t bluffing.
“We won’t dare anymore, we really won’t dare…”
They were practically on their knees.

Evan glanced at his bodyguards, and someone stepped forward to pull my parents up.
“I’ll give you one way out. Tomorrow, publish announcements in the L.A, and New York newspapers terminating your parent–child relationship with Clara Ward.”

As Evan finished speaking, his bodyguards immediately placed their guns against my parents‘ temples.

I fell asleep in Evan’s arms during the drive.
When the car finally stopped, I drowsily opened my eyes.
Outside the window was a brilliantly lit mansion perched on a hilltop, as massive as a palace,
“Where are we?”
“Our home.”
Evan lowered his head and gently kissed my forehead.

“Still tired? If you are, go back to sleep.”
I meant to answer him, but I only managed a small nod before my eyes closed again.
Evan chuckled softly, gently scooped me into his arms, and got out of the car.
He carried me all the way into the main building and up to a second–floor bedroom.
I slept like the dead, completely oblivious to everything.
Evan stayed in the bedroom for a while before going downstairs.
The butler had already gathered all the servants, bodyguards, and other staff downstairs.
Evan glanced at everyone before speaking solemnly:
“She is my future wife, the future mistress of the Thorne family.”
Everyone was startled but remained silent and attentive as Evan continued.
“You all need treat her exactly as you treat me.”
