Without thinking, I shook my head.
“Mom, I don’t plan to persuade Thane.”
Mrs. Cole nodded with a smile.

“I plan… to divorce him.”
My words cut off Mrs. Cole mid–sentence. My two children just gripped my hands tighter without saying anything.”
“Have you

your mind?”
Mrs. Cole was stunned and looked down at Emma and Noah.
“The children are already so grown up. Just turn a blind eye, and life will go on. The family assets will eventually belong to your children anyway. Why cause such a fuss?”
“It’s different, Mom.”
I shook my head. “I’ll take what belongs to me and the children before divorcing him, but if
you’re asking me to endure decades more of humiliation for the sake of the entire family fortune, I can’t do it. Mom, is this how you’ve lived all these years? Are you truly happy?”
Sacrificing herself just so that one day, when Mr. Cole passed away, her son could inherit the company. So it wouldn’t benefit those illegitimate children out there.
But watching the son she adored gradually become as faithless as his father–wouldn’t that bring a deep despair?
“I don’t want my son to grow up to be like his father, and I don’t want to sacrifice the next few decades of my life for my children.”
