It had been exactly one week since I asked Thane for a divorce, and he hadn’t come home
once.
Sometimes Emma and Noah would mention their dad, but not often.
After all, the scene had been so chaotic. The two children had cried out for their father’s embrace, only to see him turn toward some strange young woman. No matter how young they were, that was hurtful enough.
My next encounter with Thane was at his parents‘ house a week later. By then, Mr. and Mrs. Cole, who lived in the family mansion, had pulled knives on each other and drawn blood.
Thane and I, upon hearing this, headed to the mansion separately. As soon as I arrived, I saw Mr. and Mrs. Cole sitting at opposite ends of the sofa, allowing the family doctor to bandage their wounds.
Not far away stood a young, alluring woman. She looked familiar.
The next moment, the TV played an advertisement featuring a female celebrity who resembled the young woman.
Mrs. Cole’s face darkened again. She grabbed the remote and threw it at the TV. Instantly, the advertisement went silent. The young woman stood trembling, but the ambition in her eyes was unmistakable.

Mrs. Cole’s face was ashen as she pointed at the young woman, her finger trembling slightly..

“Enough!”
Looking at the bloody mark on his hand, Thane pushed Mrs. Cole away.
“Stop making a fuss! It’s just a woman! If you really can’t stand it, just send her away. What’s the point of acting like a lunatic in front of everyone?”
Hearing these words, Mrs. Cole, who had been so angry just moments before, looked at her son in disbelief. She turned to stare blankly at her son. Perhaps she couldn’t understand how the boy who once nearly killed for her sake had turned into this.
“Thane Cole, your father is cheating, bringing other women home to humiliate me, and you’re telling me not to make a fuss?”
Mrs. Cole’s voice trembled as she spoke,
But she was still his mother, after all. Thane took a deep breath and tried to reason with her.

Those words extinguished the light in Mrs. Cole’s eyes.
I watched this drama unfold, saw Mrs. Cole in the same position as mine, and walked over
to hold her hand.
