The dinner at the Mayer family mansion didn’t have many guests–almost all were top
companies in the same industry.
The purpose was to find the best partner for a project. And this project is pretty much the holy grail of the entire industry this year–every company is eager to get their hands on it, and Cole Group is no exception. In other words, they absolutely had to have it.
Thane was among those invited, and for this, he specifically came home, asking me to accompany him as his date. Only because Mr. and Mrs. Mayer had been married for forty years with a strong relationship, they required the same level of fidelity from their business
partners.
I also held some shares in the Cole Group, so the company’s development affected my income too. Therefore, attending this banquet together was an unspoken agreement.
However, before attending, I made sure to pass this information to Lily.
The young girl was reckless and impulsive. Before this, she would regularly send me photos of herself and Thane being affectionate. The worst time was when she went directly to my daughter’s school and gave the photos to Emma’s homeroom teacher, telling her to bring them home to me.
My daughter saw those photos and came home without saying a word. Since then, she has never called Thane “Dad” again.
So I was simply returning the favor. I knew that after learning about this event, Lily would definitely be furious.
For a long time before–when I was still unaware of their affair, she had accompanied Thane to many high–end events.

Half an hour after the banquet began, Lily appeared wearing a designer dress Thane had bought her.
“What are you doing here?”
Seeing her appear, Thane’s face instantly changed, but he still lowered his voice to ask.
Líly looked hurt: “I know I don’t have an official position, but you promised me before, as compensation, you’d let me accompany you to every event. But this time, you didn’t even tell me. You brought her along instead. If I hadn’t gone to visit your mother and stolen an
invitation, I wouldn’t have known.”
As she spoke, Lily looked like she was about to cry.
“It’s not that I didn’t want to tell you, but this event is special. Everyone brought their wives,
I couldn’t-”
“So you think I’m not good enough to be seen?”
Before Thane could finish, the young
Woman cried out, then covered her mouth and ran
outside. Thane quickly chased after her.
The commotion was so loud that many people turned to look. Among them was the host of
this banquet.
“Who’s that woman?” someone asked.
Another answered: “Mr. Chen’s got it all. He’s got a rockin‘ wife at home, and then there’s this cute little side chick. Well, she just lost it and showed up at the banquet. Mr. Chen just
bounced out to calm her down.”
I glanced at the speaker–he was from a rival company, Cole Group’s biggest competitor for this project.
Right now, he looked absolutely delighted.
This incident wasn’t enormous, but it wasn’t small either.
Everyone knew the unspoken rule. Even if people had affairs, at this banquet, everyone brought their legal wives, but only Thane allowed his mistress to create a scene at this event.

Mr. Mayer expressed his strong disapproval.
The companies had been on equal footing, but Thane’s moral failure tipped the scales. All their preparations had been for nothing. The project went to the rival company.
Thane was cursed out by his father as a result.
“Thane Cole, what’s wrong with your brain? How could you let that woman of yours ruin everything? Do you know how much effort and money the company invested in this project? Now it’s all wasted because of that woman!”
“I don’t care how many women you have on the side, but at least control them. If they don’t behave, then replace them. There are plenty of women out there.”
Hearing this, Thane looked at his father in shock.
“Dad, Lily is different.”
