After leaving the garden, I went back to my apartment.
It wasn’t until I moved out of Nathaniel’s house that I realized…
After all these years, I didn’t even have a place of my own.
It wasn’t until I signed the lease on this tiny 750–square–foot apartment that I finally felt
grounded.
Even though it was barely the size of one room in Nathaniel’s house.
I poured myself a glass of water and swallowed a handful of pills.
My follow–up appointment was tomorrow. I was hoping for good news.
“Miss Vivianne, your condition’s slightly improved, but it’s still serious.”
The doctor looked concerned, voice low and careful.
“What happened last time took a serious toll.”
“I really recommend scheduling the surgery soon.”
Ethan texted me at the same time.
“I’ve contacted Mr. Nathaniel’s lawyer.”
“You could meet as early as tomorrow.”
I steadied myself, then looked up at the doctor.
“Got it. I’ll think about it.”
I left the exam room feeling anything but calm.
The divorce wasn’t finalized.

The flower shop had just opened.
I didn’t have time to fall apart.
Surgery would have to wait.
While I was waiting at the pharmacy, I turned around–and ran straight into Isabella.
She looked surprised for a second, then sneered.
“Vivianne? What are you doing here?”
“Don’t tell me you’re stalking me and Nate?”
I rolled my eyes and didn’t bother responding.
“Vivianne!“.
Nathaniel’s voice cut through the hallway.
frowned and picked up my pace.
Ever since I saw him clearly for who he was, every encounter gave me a headache.
Nathaniel caught up to me and blocked my way.
“Wait–Vivianne, just wait a second.”
I stopped, tired already.
“What do you want, Nathaniel?”
He noticed the bag of meds in my hand. His eyes narrowed.
“What’s going on? Are you sick again? Why didn’t you tell me?”
I sighed and kept my voice flat.
“I’m fine. And even if I wasn’t, it’s none of your business anymore.”

“Could you just stop chasing me?”
Before Nathaniel could answer, Isabella jumped in.
“Vivianne, how could you be like this?”
“Nathaniel’s just worried about you. You don’t have to act so hostile!”
She tried to link arms with him–but he shrugged her off.
“Shut up, Isabella!”
The veins on Nathaniel’s neck popped as he snapped at her.
“N–Nate?”
Isabella stared at him, stunned.
He didn’t even glance her way. His tone was ice cold.
“This is between my wife and me. Stay out of it.

Isabella’s jaw dropped. Her face turned bright red with rage and embarrassment.
I smirked.
I’d known for a long time that Nathaniel didn’t love her.
She was just a distraction, a break from reality.
Back then, I quietly held down the fort at home, giving him the space to play around.
But now I’ve changed. And suddenly I’m the one he wants again.
The woman who stood by his side all those years.
I had no intention of watching them go at it like a bad soap opera.
I turned and walked off, tossing one sentence over my shoulder.

“Tomorrow at 2 p.m. Bring your lawyer. Same place as before.”
I could still feel Nathaniel’s eyes burning into my back as I walked away.
