Devil’s Saints: Taz
Chapter 37: Absalom
Brothers will always have your back through thick and thin. Except when you hurt your woman. Then they have her back. – Molly
Toad watched as his brothers all looked at Taz with sympathy. A few of them offered words of comfort. Others touched her arm, shoulder or back. The one thing that they all had in common was the angry look aimed at Riffraff’s door.
“Riff, best advice that I can give you right now, keep your ass in your room.” He looked from the hall to the solitary man with a broken heart. “You have some very pissed off brothers right now.”
“I did what was best for her.”
“If it was the best thing, why are you both so miserable?”
Riffraff had no answer. Toad closed the door leaving him alone with his thoughts and heartache.
“Shows over and I’m sure that you assholes have things to do.”
Slowly the men turned and left. All except Absalom. Years later, the tall blonde still regretted letting his woman walk out of his life. The younger man motioned to the door with his head and Toad nodded before he walked away.
The door opened after just one knock. Absalom looked at his friend and knew the pain
that he was in.
“Trust me, the answer is not in one of those bottles.”
“And you know this for certain?”
“Oh, yeah, I searched for answers and hope and all sorts of things in various bottles and bags.” He said stepping in and closing the door. “I found more questions, fear and nothing
good.”
“Maybe I’ll have better luck.” Riffraff sneered.
Absalom sat down at the table and twisted the lid off one of the bottles and took a drink.

Chapter 37: Absalom
“I try every October. Haven’t found anything new in there yet.”
“I’m too old for her.” Riffraff said sitting down on the bed. Absently he toyed with her t-
shirt that lay on the bed.
“Really? So old you can’t get it up?” Absalom asked with a cocked eyebrow. “I’ve heard her in here. I’ve heard her cry out for you. I’ve heard you also. I wouldn’t apply for
Medicare just yet.”
“There’s more to it than that.”
“If I could go back in time, I would have never let my Alice leave me. I would have fought
for her. Hell, the first chance I get at having her back, I’m fighting like a mother fucking bastard for her. Do you really want to spend the next part of your life hoping for a
moment, a glimpse, of what you’re throwing away right now?”
A silence fell between the two before Knuckles quietly asked a question that Absalom
contemplated often.
“Do you think that you’ll ever get over your Alice?”
Shaking his head, he met the older man’s eyes. “I know I won’t. She’s still the one I fall asleep thinking of. The one I wake up thinking of. When I fuck another woman, it’s my
Alice that I think of.”
“How long has it been?”
“Six years.”
“I don’t think I can do that.”
“I’ll probably spend the rest of my life regretting letting her go.”
“I know I can’t do that. But-”
“Do you
Her?”
love her?” Absalom asked and Riffraff looked at him confused. “Do. You. Love.
“Yes.” He finally admitted even to himself.
“Then go fight for her.”

“How?”
“For that, I advise you talking to Molly. That man can keep all his pretties happy. He’s the
one to teach the rest of us about women.”
“I don’t know how he does it.” Riffraff admitted.
