Chapter 42: Spies
It’s only spying if you get caught. So don’t get caught. – Nan
“Girl, if you’re going to stand there and watch, you should tell us what’s going on.” Nan told Angel.
Angel stood at the corner of the window watching her dad and Taz. Gran sat on the bright red couch amused at the two women. Her granddaughter hid herself with the dark gray blackout curtains, peeking through a small spot between the curtain and the wall. The young Spaniard was entertaining herself with the electric recliner.
“He’s holding her hands, and kissing them.” She said a little dreamily and then her voice hardened. “Asshole better be begging for fucking mercy.”
“I think he plans to beg for a very long time.” Nan said over her coffee mug.
“Mother fucker. She looks like she’s going to cry.”
Mel said something in Spanish about Angel’s language. She merely snorted and continued to watch.
“Ohhhh…. Their foreheads are touching. Do you think that she’ll forgive him that easily? Yes, she will. They’re kissing!”
“Clothes start coming off, you can go throw cold water on them.” Nan warned.
“Go get it ready. She’s in his lap.”
“Just use a bottle from the fridge. But that doesn’t mean that they’ll actually go at it on the back deck.”
Angel had the decency to at least blush at her grandmother reminding her that her father would not be the first one to have sex on her semi secluded back yard deck. Smiling at the older woman, she shrugged her shoulders.
“It was after sunset.”
“In range of the motion sensor lights.”

“Nan….”
“Yes.”
“Nan… did you give him your ring?”
“I did. Did he ask her?”
“He just put a ring on her finger.”
Mel murmured something in Spanish dreamily.
“Shit.” Angel jumped over the back of the nearest chair and tried to look like she wasn’t
just spying on them. Grabbing the TV remote, she turned it on and picked the first streaming service that popped up to search for something to watch. Her attention was
more on the door rather than the screen and she did not see the odd looks she was
getting.
“I never knew that you were a baseball fan.” Riffraff said after they entered and stopped by her chair.
“I’m really not.”
“And yet, you’re searching through today’s games.” He smirked.
Angel stared at the screen guiltily. Nan laughed while Mel tried to hide her own laughter.
“She’s trying to expand her knowledge and tastes.” Taz offered.
“Exactly.” Angel agreed. “I knew that I liked you.”
“It’s a good thing too.” Riffraff added.
“I know, when are you two getting married?” she asked her father excitedly but at his arched eyebrow, she found herself tripping over her tongue. “I mean, uhmm, I’m guessing that, well, shit.”
“She saw the ring on my finger.” Taz explained with a knowing grin.
“That’s it!” Angel cried out.

“Yeah, saw me put it on.” Riffraff teased.
“I didn’t say when, just that she saw it.” Taz leaned into him and he brushed a kiss against the top of her head. Closing her eyes, she let out a soft sigh and he tightened his hold on her waist.
“If you want a full wedding, it will take a little time to put together.” Nan told them. “But if you just want to get married, you can get married today across state lines.”
“On a Saturday?” Angel asked.
Nan held up her phone. “Just have to make an appointment with the JP. He can do it at five.”
“What do you want?” Riffraff asked her softly.
“Not to wear a goofy dress that costs so much that you could feed the homeless for a week.‘
“”
“You can always have a reception later.” Mel offered.
“Priscilla would like all the pictures.” Riffraff thought out loud.
“Why don’t you go get married for real, and then have a ceremony at the clubhouse next weekend.” Nan offered.
“I have a fight Saturday.” Taz said shaking her head.
“Saturday after.” Angel said. “Gives us time to get it put together, and it’s before we go back to Spain.”
“And our German neighbor.” Mel added with a giggle. Angel smiled over at her and said
something in Spanish causing the other woman to squirm in the chair.
“I don’t speak Spanish, but I got the gist of that.” Nan laughed. “If you do anything
outside, turn the lights off. Little switch by the back door.”
“She’s definitely your daughter.” Taz murmured.
With a little chuckle, he squeezed her lightly. “You should ask Nan where my mother was
conceived.”

“Either in the bed of a pickup or picnic table at the lake.” Nan replied. “Am I making this appointment?”
“Whatever you want, babe.” Riffraff whispered against her hair. He smiled when she nodded.
“I need to call Brute.”
“Do you want Knuckles there?”
She shook her head against his chest. “Just Brute, and your girls.”
“We’re going to be your girls too.” Angel pointed out and Mel agreed with a smile and a “Si, mama.”
“OK, just Brute and our girls.” Taz corrected herself with a smile to her soon–to–be
stepdaughter.
“Then let’s go get married.” He tipped her face up and kissed her.
