Chapter 54: Siblings
Unfortunately, I’m speaking from experience when I tell you that you will get past this. – Law
First week was complete and Saturday afternoon rolled around. All five sisters were on the phone and watching Sons of Anarchy. Katie was in Germany, Jasmin in Japan, Cassie was in California and Tammie was back in Austin. But every week, they found a time that they could all get together and watch their show. Soon they would have to find another show since they were on the last season.
When it was over, they talked for a while longer. Jasmin had to go report for duty and Katie went back to bed. They all had other things to do. Except Evie. She didn’t have anything to do. It was in these moments, in the silence, that made it hard.
She went to her closet and pulled out one of the BDU jackets. Looking at the rank, she knew it was Daniel’s. Slipping her arms in the sleeves she grabbed the other one that had belonged to Cade. She curled up on the couch, wearing one jacket and holding the other.
Tears slowly rolled down her cheeks. Scruffles jumped up on the couch with her. He bumped her chin with the top of his head purred at her. Evie jumped when her phone started playing Baby It’s Cold Outside.
“Hey.” She answered, not hiding her tears.
“I’m thinking I’m going to smuggle a penguin out of here.”
“Get a baby.”
“You’re going to have to keep your apartment really, really cold.”
“It’s small. And it has a big tub.”
“That’s good. How was the show?”
“Same as always. Hot guys, hot guys and hot guys.”
“What happened?”
“Did you not hear me? Hot guys. I think that there may have been some motorcycles.”

There was laughter from the other end of the line. “I’ll be home in a few months. But I’m going to miss the anniversary.”
“I’ve scheduled the week off. I can’t believe it’s been nearly three years.”
“I know. You’re strong, Evie. You’ll make it through the darkness.”
“There are days that I’m not certain.” She admitted as her other phone began to ring. “I can’t deal with her today.”
“Does she still blame you for Daniel’s death?”
“Yes. What if-”
“Stop. You’re not the one that shot him. Or Cade. Or Richard. You were at home, waiting on your men. She was full of hate for you before. Now she’s grieving her son’s death and
you’re an easy target.”
Evie sniffled at her brother’s words.
“The only thing that you did was love him. And Cade. You did nothing wrong. Hold onto your memories. Don’t ever let your memories or your love go. But just remember, moving on is not a bad thing. Take however long you need to heal. But don’t shut out the world. It’s pretty out here.”
“It’s cold out there.”
“That’s why we have gear. Now, tell me about your new school and students. Think any of them have jacked off thinking about you yet?”
“Oh! You asshole! One of my students saw that!”
Law laughed at her. “That’s funny.”
“Not when he all but told me he would be jacking off later.”
“I’m changing your ringtone to Too Hot for Teacher right now.” He laughed.
“What is it right now?”
“The Wall.” He chuckled and began to sing Pink Floyd’s song.

Chapter 54: Siblings
They talked for quite a while before he had to go. She always felt better after talking to him. He was not in the lifestyle, but had never judged. Somehow, he knew that her two men having complete control over her life made her whole. And now she was broken, part of her was missing.
Unlike their siblings, both Law and she had both lost spouses. Her to a drug addict. Him to a car crash. They both understood the darkness that sometimes engulfed the other.
That night she spent over an hour debating with herself on what to have for dinner. After nixing just about everything, she made herself a bowl of cereal with strawberry slices. This was one of the biggest things that she missed.
It wasn’t that she didn’t know what she liked. It was having to choose. And having to
choose something for just one person made it worse.
If she cooked, then she always had a lot of leftovers.
If she ordered out, it was a waste.
Pizza went only half eaten.
Fries only nibbled.
She would order too much Chinese just to get a little of everything she wanted.
It was just one more reminder that she was alone.
