“That’s impossible, Michael. You already signed the divorce agreement. It clearly states that you leave with nothing. But if you show up on time tomorrow to finalize the divorce, we can discuss dividing assets. You can keep the company.”
“If you refuse, I’ll take this agreement to court. And trust me, you won’t get a single cent.”
Michael stared at me in disbelief, as if he couldn’t believe the words coming out of my mouth.
“Diana, are you really going to do this?”
I glanced at the empty bottles on the table, my expression devoid of warmth.
“When have I ever backed out on a decision?”
Michael let out a bitter laugh, leaning back until he was sprawled out on the floor.
“You don’t understand, Diana. I had a strict childhood. My parents never let me have friends. Susie was the only one who ever cared about me.” 1
Tears of regret streamed down his face as he rambled about why he had always put Susie first. However, I wasn’t interested in listening.
Without a word, I turned and went to take a shower.
By the next morning, Michael had no choice but to go through with it. For the sake of the Meyers, he had to comply..
The moment I held the divorce certificate in my hands, I felt an overwhelming sense of relief. I ignored Michael’s pale face and strode out of the courthouse without hesitation.
Just as I reached the door, Michael suddenly grabbed my wrist.
I turned to see him looking exhausted, his red–rimmed eyes filled with desperation.
“Diana, please… Just one more chance. I swear I can make this right.”
I yanked my wrist free, flashing him a triumphant smile.
“Mr. Meyer, what are you talking about? We’re already divorced. What more is there to say?”
Michael looked like he wanted to argue, but I had lost all interest.
As promised, I left the company to him.
Then, alone, I traveled to Charleston, where I had once dreamed of spending my honeymoon with Michael.
I had imagined countless times what it would be like to visit this city with him. However, now that I was here alone, I realized I didn’t need him to enjoy it.
I explored, experienced new cultures, and tasted incredible food. The journey was everything I had hoped for, and
more.
Two months later, I finally returned.
During that time, I had deliberately left the company in Michael’s hands.
I waited for him to buckle under the weight of public scrutiny and watched as he ran it into the ground. Then, just as planned, I swooped in and bought it back for next to nothing.

That way, he took the fall for the scandal, and I reclaimed my company for a fraction of its worth.
When I saw Michael again, it was in the CEO’s office.
This time, I wasn’t walking in as an employee. I was the new owner.
“Mr. Meyer, long time no see.”
Michael had lost so much weight.
The confident, arrogant man I once knew was gone, replaced by someone who looked utterly defeated.
“Diana…”
“Mr. Meyer, you should address me as Ms. Spencer.”
His expression flickered with a thousand emotions before he finally swallowed them all down.
Under my orders, Michael packed up and left within three days.
With me at the helm, the company quickly returned to its former glory.
